I was honored when Dr. Ken Odiwe approached me to ask if I would be willing to contribute to his book. It never occurred to me that, despite my childhood experiences with my Chilean family, neighbors, and teachers, I had developed some of the same traits Dr. Ken outlines in the pages to come. Upon reading the book, it became quite clear to me that he had tapped into something incredible—he had found a link between the immigrant spirit and a series of powerful tools designed to create wealth.
There’s something so powerful about landing in a foreign country and trying to make your own way. One must adapt to different people, food, values, and customs—indeed a completely different way of being. It’s a tough situation, but as my family taught me, it is one that can only make you stronger.
I remember from my childhood many scenes of my parents meeting with family friends every weekend. Together, the adults would plan their futures, both individually and collectively. Most were in dire straits, working in what we considered “menial jobs,” and yet they all had a vision: one day, they would overcome their difficult financial circumstances by moving to America, the most prosperous country in the world. Over the course of many weekends scattered across several years, they would devise a plan that would put them on the path to the American Dream.
As a young girl of twelve (and through the age of fifteen) sitting in on these meetings, little did I know that I was learning many of the timeless principles of success covered in this book. Naïve as I was, I listened in on the conversations. I witnessed the enthusiasm, the hope, and the dreams of these amazing men and women. All of them were keen to become millionaires—they would be, after all, working in the ultimate land of opportunity.
The men would play poker on Saturday nights. The families would gather for barbeques on the beach. We all celebrated birthdays and holidays together. But through it all, the question of how to surpass their circumstances was always foremost in the conversation. When the dream finally began to take hold as a plan of action, the families pooled their money together and began embarking upon a series of entrepreneurial projects. They were intent on success. In their minds, low-paying jobs and the potential for poverty simply was not an option. This refusal to accept the hands they were dealt is something that has stuck with me even today.
At the Excellerated Business School®, we teach our participants to constantly ask themselves the following questions:
“How can I leverage myself today?”
“How can I leverage my products/services?”
“How can I continue to expand my network/market for my business?”
In their own way, my immigrant role models were asking the same empowering questions every day. And in my own way, I grew up surrounded by these questions, which in turn led to my determination and drive to achieve.
Success doesn’t happen by accident. There is a formula. There are distinctions and principles that must be present in order to make it so. With this book, you will learn those distinctions and principles—and you will do so in a way that is easy to absorb, process, and adapt to your life. Even from Page 1, it is clear that Dr. Ken has put tremendous energy and effort into offering a concise and precise piece of work. The result of this organization and research will lead to true and measurable results for you.
The subject of how to attain wealth seems a universal question in the minds of people residing in civilized countries. In many ways, it’s the “holy grail” of the 21st Century. Once one realizes that this wealth is at our fingertips—that it can be reached by any reasonable human being that is open to new ideas, is willing to learn from the masters, and who doesn’t allow for old-thinking to come into play—it becomes little more than a matter of sweat and tears. Achieving wealth is possible. It can be done. By anyone.
With this book, Dr. Ken shares these same lessons with you, along with a host of new business principles that will help you to create the wealth about which you have always dreamed. Congratulations! You have stumbled into some good stuff here. Read Dr. Ken’s principles, test his strategies, put the New American Millionaire model to work. These are powerful, proven tools for success. I wish you all the productivity and prosperity that they promise.
