People magazine editor Andersen has updated his Book of People (1981). Criteria for inclusion seem vague in this dull rehash of celebrities' lives. The author claims that as ``timeliness is of utmost importance'' at least 60 names have been dropped from the previous edition. Still, selections are arbitrary. What is timely about Debbie and Pat Boone, John Davidson, Joni Mitchell, Carole King, et al.? Why are Bjorn Borg and Jimmy Connors here but not Boris Becker or John McEnroe (except as a sentence in Tatum O'Neal's biography). The list is endless. The format has a paragraph of family/career highlights followed by who's who type information. Current Biography and/or celebrity magazines serve patrons much better than this. Paula M.
