I read this book when it first came out. There was definitely something creepy about the submarine. Maybe it was the way it was described, or written, but it definitely gave me nightmares. It's a great read. Just leave the lights on while your doing it.

I've heard ghosts were bad news, but these Nazi ghosts are 10 times worse. I guess all those years stuck on a submarine can make you a lttle CRANKY!!

I know this is one of McCammon’s earliest novels and he made no secret of the fact that he wasn’t too fond of it but I just finished it and I have to say I found it exceptional. I guess I’m a sucker for a number of the elements in the story, seemingly disparate, yet connected in a wonderful, synergistic way: the lush Caribbean setting, the U-boat itself and of course, the beautifully “fleshed out” zombies. All of these work together perfectly to build a superb novel, full of suspense and plenty of genuine scares. What a great movie this would make!
