Overall, the NKJV Vines Expository Bible by Thomas Nelson is a really nice Bible. The copy that I am reviewing is the hardcover version. It really feels pretty good in the hand and has a nice size to it. The print is nice and large and easy to see at about a 10.5 point font for the Scripture text and a 9 point font for the study notes. It is very readable. This is not what I would classify as a Study Bible as it doesn't have the typical study tools like cross-references or study notes at the bottom of the pages. Rather, Thomas Nelson took the expository sermons that Pastor Jerry Vines preached over his 24 years as pastor at First Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Florida and adapted them into articles and outlines for this Bible. Those sermons were Pastor Vines' exposition that covered every book in the Bible. With tools such as Book Introductions and key word studies, there are some nice study notes in this Bible. Also, there are a lot of articles about applying the message and living that message based on his expository sermons. All of these articles and tools provide you with a way to help you apply the Word to your life and live it out. They are very helpful. They also provide over 200 of Pastor Vines' expository sermon outlines in sections entitled "Presenting the Message". I find these to be excellent articles relating to the portion of Scripture they are covering. Think of it as a "sermon-lite" if you will. While I have not read every one yet, the ones I have read are written very well and are solid. I do like the tools contained in this Bible - while not as abundant as a typical Study Bible, they are well designed and easy to follow. Overall, I would say that if you enjoy the sermons of Pastor Jerry Vines or lean more toward a Baptist background, then this Bible should be fairly high on your list to get. It is very well written and the design and layout are very pleasing. I would recommend this Bible for sure. If you are looking for a Study Bible that has notes on every single page geared toward the text on that page, then this is not the Bible you are looking for. However, if you are looking for an NKJV Bible that has some really good (and solid) commentary from a Baptist background to help you learn and apply God's Word to your life, then I would highly recommend this Bible for you. I received a copy of this Bible in exchange for this review from Thomas Nelson and all opinions are my own.

Gone are the days in which a person simple goes to a bookstore and grabs a King James or New King James version of the Bible. Once upon a time the only options a person had was the type of cover a Bible had. Today, the accompanying supplements to a Bible can make a person grab the cheapest Bible off the shelf and move on BUT DON’T DO IT! Thomas Nelson publishing has once again present an option to those who want to read Scripture with understanding in the form of THE VINES EXPOSITORY BIBLE. Hmmm, that sounds like a pretty serious compilation of information, perhaps it is to much for the novice reader; it is not. Expository: to bring clarity by presenting information in a more detailed way (my defintion). The VINES EXPOSITORY BIBLE General Editor Jerry Vines, Pastor First Baptist Church Jacksonville FL, Retired, is a New King James version of the Bible that contains various Bible study helps. As listed on the back of the jacket the study helps include: 205 Presenting Messages, 148 Living the Message, 237 Applying the Message, 311 Discerning the Meaning, introductions to each book, a topical index and a concordance; and of course there are maps. I personally appreciate Bible application thus reading “An Anguished Cry” found in Lamentations (APPLYING THE MESSAGE| Lam. 1:12) was not only thought provoking but made the book all the more relevant to today. To discuss the sections entitled PRESENTING THE MESSAGE would make this review longer than it already is however I must say- if you are a Church Leader of any level you will definitely appreciate this discussion. I firmly believe it is very important that people own a tangible copy of the Bible, for those who really want to know what ‘thus sayeth the Lord’ this is a Bible worth purchasing. -written by Marsha L F Randolph I received this book free from the publisher through the BookLook Bloggers book review bloggers program. NKJV, Vines Expository Bible A Guided Journey Through the Scriptures with Pastor Jerry Vines By Jerry Vines Published by Thomas Nelson is a newly published study bible. This bible is perfect for new believers as well as those established in faith and familiar with the bible. The bible is bound with a cloth textured cover and two marker ribbons. This beautiful presentation would make a perfect gift. The larger font is easy to read as well, which will encourage hours of study and reading while at home and at a church service or bible study. Spot color in red adds visual appeal to this bible. As far as the study material- this bible is as good as having a pastor at your side to guide you as you read the bible. For those who cannot attend bible study or bible services, this bible provides valuable insight with the "Applying The Message" side bars as well as the full length "presenting the Message" pages. These pages and side bars are like sermons and bible studies right from Pastor Jerry Vines, a spiritually gifted teacher of the bible message. Smaller "Discerning the Meaning" tid bits of useful and spiritually awakening information is scattered throughout. Study features such as a concordance and index of topics is perfect for those who want a "where to turn to when feeling _____", for inspiration and information. This bible is in the NKJV. I would like to see this bible also available in the NIV format for those readers who prefer the more modern NIV version. Other than that, this is a perfect choice for a bible, delivering a traditional, non watered down message through the study features included from Pastor Vines. As a blogger for Booklook I received a copy of this bible published by Thomas Nelson. There are many, many study bibles on the market and its hard to choose what to trust. If you are looking for a bible with reliable direction and notes from a trustworthy source, to help inspire you and to help you apply bible principles as you read, this is a great bible to turn to.
