Henry James (1843-1916) was a noted American realist writer and literary critic. James is regarded as one of the key figures of 19th-century literary realism, found in his masterpieces THE TURN OF THE SCREW, THE BOSTONIANS, DAISY MILLER, and THE PORTRAIT OF A LADY. In addition to novels and essays, James wrote travelogues and plays, some of which achieved moderated success in his lifetime.
