Overview

After losing his sight in a terrible accident, only to learn that the woman he was planning to marry did not love him enough to accept him, Damien Falconer was devastated. Struggling to cope with his disability, he isolated himself from society, allowing no one to get close to him, but his personal assistant, Jake. Upon learning Jake was soon to leave his employ and return to Scotland, Damien was forced to advertise for his replacement.
Among the applicants who answered his ad was Lisa Andrews, a registered nurse from Connecticut. But Damien was adamant that he would not be replacing Jake with a woman. His argument was, he did not feel comfortable with a woman doing the things that Jake did for him, but one whiff of Lisa's unique scent and Damien found himself fighting a blistering physical attraction the likes of which he'd never known before. Should he hire her or should he ignore what his "other" senses were screaming at him, about this woman. Damien rustled with the question for several days, but in the end, he caved. And so began a hunger for a woman he couldn't see...could only recognize by her unique scent...yet wanted like he'd never wanted anything before.

Reviewed by Tracy Slowiak for Readers' Favorite Whoa! Can you say hot? Well, I certainly did after finishing The Odor of Violet, the new offering by author Ju Ephraime. Follow the story of Damien Falconer, a young man who is struggling mightily after he loses both his sight and the woman he thought loved him, after she could not deal with his new disability. Damien has become comfortable living as a recluse, only allowing his personal assistant, Jake, into his life. But when Jake prepares to return to Scotland, and a new assistant needs to be found, no one, especially Damien, could have expected registered nurse Lisa Andrews. Damien is at first resistant to having a female assistant; determined as he is that all hope of a good relationship with a woman is non-existent. But when they meet, and Damien becomes captivated by her intriguing scent, a relationship like neither had ever expected ensues. I so enjoyed The Odor of Violet. Author Ju Ephraime has done a spectacular job in creating characters that her readers will connect with, relate to and truly come to care about, thinking of long after the story is done. If that isn't a hallmark of a great author, I'm not sure what is. A hot romance, this book will have readers greedily turning the pages, eager to find out what happens next. Any reader who loves a contemporary romance, especially one written with an emphasis on the male's perspective, should absolutely read this book. I highly recommend The Odor of Violet, and look forward to reading more from author Ju Ephraime as soon as I possibly can!

This is an unusual, well written story of love blossoming despite the high hurdles facing the protagonists. I liked the plot and the way in which it flowed, peaking at just the right time. Unlike many steamy romances, this book had substance. It was poignant, sensitive, and quite unputdownable, once started. 'Damien is blinded' and his lack of self confidence and fear filled me with sadness. What a difficult subject to tackle. Ju Ephraime manages to ignite a love story with realism and class. Thoroughly enjoyable.

I liked this book very much, it’s well-written with excellent characters you won’t soon forget. When Damien loses his sight and wants to hide away, he feels love will never enter his life again. How wrong he was! It’s a spicy, tantalizing read from a man’s point of view that will keep you wanting more. His caretaker, Lisa, becomes over time, a passionate, and giving lover. Trust is something Damien must have, and she provides more than he could have asked for. A beautiful romantic story that was tastefully done; they build the relationship slowly, and yet ends with sizzling passion and love. High marks to author Ju Ephraime.

A very interesting, unique, and steamy romance The odor of Violet by Julia Antoine is a very interesting, unique, and steamy romance between Damien and Lisa. Damien is a wounded hero—a strong, independent man who is left blind after an accident. Lisa—his caretaker—is a nurse with a tantalizing smell. The attraction between them is hard to resist but both of them struggle to contain their desire.

A Touching Story! This is the second story of Ju Ephraime that I've had the pleasure to enjoy. The story pulled me in from the prologue and I could hear and smell and sense what Damien feels even though he cannot see. Blinded by an industrial accident two years ago, Damien has struggled with living life anew. Gone were his sportsmen days and in came many days of isolation, self-pity and the resulting angst he'd feel around his old social circle. Having rebuilt his life, interviewing candidates to assist him in his daily tasks puts Lisa on his inconvenient attraction radar. Hired to be his caretaker, Lisa also has feelings for him. Because of the implicit no fraternizing between employer-employee relationship, they both fight their feelings and their pasts to make their way toward something new, something fresh. I don't find many stories with leading characters that have a physical disability. So this book struck a chord on that level as well, and I'm that much more happy for both of the characters when they finally make their way toward each other. This is definitely another winning story by Ephraime. Highly recommended!

OMG I love a wounded antagonist and Damien Falconer is just such a man. Having lost his sight in a terrible accident he fears he will never love again... but fate has in store for him something rather special. A nurse, with a tantalising smell is about to enter his life and no matter how much he wants to hide away from the world, she is going to help him face things he'd rather slide under the carpet. This is a passionate, sensual and delightfully spicy read that will have you devouring the pages in a single sitting!

Damien, a vibrant man before his accident, isn’t able to cope with his blindness. In front of others he seems calm, but when alone he mourns his past life and lost love. When his personal assistant Jake decides to leave, Damien has to hire someone new. His most important requirement is that the assistant could not be a woman. His mind changed the first time he met Lisa. She smelled of violets, Damien’s favorite flower. Her scent wafts off her, drifting across the room, causing a physical reaction Damien is not prepared for. What follows is a romantic, erotic story of true love. There are a couple of plot twists that make this book even more enjoyable.

The Odor of Violet By Ju Ephraime When Damien Falconer awakens from a serious accident he sees only the dark of blindness. This gorgeous hunk of a man, active in all areas of life and successful in business, is no quitter. Yet his newly empty world turns him into a self-imposed recluse. Enter Lisa — a trained nurse taking over for Damien's accountant, who's been caring for him but now needs to leave. He's not happy with the idea of a female tending his needs, yet the lilting smile he hears in her voice and the remarkable scent of violet exuding from her body wafts over him, stirring his curiosity as well as other parts of his body. It isn't long before it Damien reaches out for Lisa during her nighttime check up on him, and begins kissing her. His pent up passion sends him beyond reason and Lisa responds just as hungrily. Damien does not need his sight to know her body, smell her scent, and send them both into wild lust-filled sex beyond anything he's ever experienced. Both Damien and Lisa have bruised egos from bad past relationships; especially Damien, who assumed his love, Shelly, would be there for him. Instead, she took off, not wanting the bother of dealing with a handicapped man. Perhaps that's what made the sexually hot, overly masculine man become impotent for the first time in his life. With Lisa, only her self-esteem is bruised. The bond between them intensifies as their newly found love for each other matches the primal fire of lust which can't seem to be quenched. His fear of permanent impotency is quickly extinguished. Yet Damien fears Lisa, like Shelly, might not want to share a life with a sightless man. Author Ju Ephraime, once again, writes a romantic erotic novel with both heart and light humor, sure to appeal to readers who enjoy this genre. She brings even more charm and sweetness to the story with its unexpected but deeply satisfying climax. I fell in love with the main character, Damien after reading the book. As a disabled person, I fully appreciate how he had to rely on his other senses after he lost his eyesight. I admired the way he tried so hard to be independent even if it was hard on him and when he began having feeling for his assistant, Lisa and she felt the same way about him, I was rooting for him. The way the author wrote the store with the back store at the beginning, made it easy to follow the story. Great summer read!

The Odor of Violet is a steamy, erotic love story that will definitely draw you in and have you turning the pages. Ju Efraime crafts a passionate tale of two people who were predestined to meet and fall in love, regardless of the circumstances in their lives. She does an excellent job of tapping into your emotions as you become engrossed in this breathtaking novel of romance and love. The story evolves almost in its entirety around the two main characters who are likeable and well-drawn. Damien, who is blind, shows his independent nature by not letting his disability hinder his drive to live a normal life. Lisa, who has survived a shattering experience, shows her strong character as she handles Damien with sensitivity and finesse.  The chemistry between Damien and Lisa sizzles as they fight the strong attraction that draws them together. The sex between the protagonists is intense and highly erotic but interspersed with a good amount of romance, making it a steamy but passionate love story.  The Odor of Violet is an enjoyable and entertaining read that will hold your attention from beginning to end. It contains explicit but tasteful sex scenes and is not for someone looking to read a sweet romance. If your taste runs more to the spicy side, then this novel is definitely for you.     I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review and participation in a review book tour event hosted by Goddess Fish.  Janna Shay Author of Fair Play

As a person with a disability I find myself a good judge of what makes a disabled character believable as well as a reliable critic when it comes to portraying disabilities. In The Odor of Violet Ms Ephraime both succeeds and falls a bit short in how blindness and the resulting emotions are presented. Damien was blinded a few years ago and is still trying to cope with round the clock assistance from his accountant/assistant/friend, Jake. Their relationship was a complicated one as Jake gave up everything to help Damien. He's put his life on hold to help Damien and it's clear that he does this for more than money. There's friendship between them, with Jake the more obvious in their interactions and the playful banter he throws at Damien. This friendship/caregiver relationship kept Damien from having to fully accept his disability and act independently in my opinion. With people to make and bring his meals and people who pay his bills and run his errands, he's allowed his home to become his hideaway and I saw a man who was a slave to his blindness, both physically and emotionally. That's not to say that Damien is completely weak. He's strong in body and exudes sexuality. His ex fiancée might have questioned his sexual prowess but this story shows time and again his sexual intensity. His new insights have also allowed him to realize what's really important when it comes to love. No more superficial eye candy for him, it's now what's inside someone's heart and soul that counts. Enter Lisa Andrews, nurse extradonaire! After a bad hospital experience she now works one on one with patients and Damien is her latest patient. I'm not quite sure what needs Damien would have for a nurse and considering how fast the attraction erupts between them I guess a bit of sexual healing is what she provides. She's a kindhearted woman, down to earth, but a bit naive in the boudoir. Her virginity doesn't stop their numerous hot and heavy encounters that quickly evolve into something more profound and permanent. This was a sweet yet sexy story that had a soap opera feel to it. Damien's blindness is addressed head-on with his feelings of inadequacy being realistic. What I had issues with was his lack of becoming independent. His continued reliance on others made me like him a bit less. I wanted him to show inner fortitude and dig out from under his emotional despair but it never fully happened until the conclusion, of which I also had issues with. Suffice it to say, the healing power of love took on a whole new meaning in this story and it left me a bit disappointed. Those of us with disabilities will find some aspects of this story disappointing but lovers of romance will find themselves completely won over. This is ultimately a story of a man learning to cope with his differences. He's lucky to be surrounded by people who are caring and supportive and the rapport between them was entertaining and heartfelt. The story flows with a nice pace and there are no BIG misunderstandings, the conflicts are more internal. The story is sweet and sexy and culminates in a satisfying conclusion.

My Review: I needed a good love story, and that is what this is. Damien is blind. He feels like he is always someones else's responsibility. First his friend Jake and then Lisa. Every day tasks became a burden. He needed help to shower and shave. He was a broken man and he thought no woman could ever love him, especially after what his previous girlfriend did. Lisa also knows what it is like to be mistreated, and that is why she left her job at the Hospital to care for older men as a live in nurse. After all she will do her job, and older men were not her type, so she would be safe. Little did Lisa know that as soon as Damien smelled her and touched her hand that he was utterly smitten with her. Her smell put him in a sexual daze that only Lisa could fix. Lisa also started to come undone when she was around Damien. He was so strong and manly, he made up for his loss of sight in other areas. It takes two hearts becoming one to mend their broken hearts. Are both Damien and Lisa willing to open up and trust again? Can Lisa become a care giver wife rather than a nurse? What happens when Damien's ex comes to visit? These are all questions that you will need to read the book to find out! Does Damien get partial sight back? Let's not forget Jake. What happens to him, once Lisa and Damien are an item? How far of an item do they get? How far are two people in love willing to honor in sickness and in health? I really liked the way the writer had the characters banter back and forth. I found myself laughing with them! This was an easy and fast read. This book was really a great read and it left me smiling and happy.I can not wait for more from this great author. She has a way with characters, and she reminded me not to take life for granted.

I loved this book, from the opening paragraph I fell in love with the book. I liked the fact that the back stories about the two main characters were introduced in the beginning, so I was not left guessing and questioning why. Damien was a virile young man until he lost his sight in a terrible accident and Lisa was the personal assistant he had to hire to replace his current assistant, Jake, who was leaving him to pursue his own career. Damien didn’t want to hire a woman to replace Jake, for one thing he had sworn off women after his fiancée dumped him because she didn’t want to deal with a handicapped, as he’d informed him, for a husband. Also he didn’t want a woman helping him with personal things, such as shaving, etc that Jake helped him with. But one whiff of Lisa’s unique scent and Damien was hooked. Lisa was equally taken with Damien. The author built up the sexual tension between these two main characters until I wanted to scream, but when she finally brought them together, it was worth every minute of the wait. I read the book in one day. I highly recommend for lovers of hot steamy romances.
