Review Courtesy of April Hollingworth This is the first book in the Lia and Darius saga. Christine Elaine Black writes in such a beautiful fashion, you feel you have been transported back in time and are there with Lia and Darius. The descriptions are vivid and wonderful, the characters, what can I say I adore Lia and Darius, they are quite magnificent. The story unravels in such a way that you are dying to know what happens next. Stunningly beautiful and completely wonderful, I can’t wait to read the second part in this magnificent saga. Opening Scene: The Governor’s Mansion A soldier slid a ring from his finger and pressed it into Lia’s palm. The Review: Lia is the Governor’s children’s tutor, her education is better than most men, let alone women. Something that either will save her, or be her greatest downfall, when the Roman army comes crashing into the Governor’s mansion. Lia’s world changes in an instant from being safe and predictable to dangerous with an uncertain future a head of her. Can the powerful and handsome smooth-talking Commander, who walks an unsteady path, of answering his superior’s demands, and keeping her safe, convince her to trust him, and risk her fate into his hands and possibly her heart? On the hunt to find a missing treasure, murder and betrayal are not far away. Will the greed of others keep Darius and Lia apart? Notable Scene: Darius tapped on Lia’s door first. She emerged and Darius checked himself to stop his mouth falling open. Dressed for dinner in an elegant white creation trimmed in gold, with her dark hair piled on her head and her emerald green eyes glowing, she waited for him to comment. He gently pushed her into the room and stepped inside, closing the door with a thud. “What are you doing?” A sliver of annoyance ran through him. She drew her brows together. “Having dinner with the commander. Is it not appropriate to dress correctly?” “Yes, but you must be far less attractive. The commander will overlook Lady Basheria quicker than a lightening flash. I insist you change into a plain gown and arrange your hair in a less fashionable style.” Darius returned to the hallway and shrugged at the guard. “Women! They change their mind at the last minute.” Moments later the door opened and Lia emerged a second time wearing a dark blue gown with her hair pulled into a severe style at the back of her neck. She dazzled Darius and he prayed Anya would look her best tonight. FTC Advisory: Christine Elaine Black provided me with a copy of The Only Good Roman by Christine Elaine Black. Moving, a true page turner.

I couldn't finish it. The characters weren't interesting and the plot moved too slowly. Also, the writing is dry and has a lot of errors. Still, I'd like to see this after a few more drafts.
