The only puppy keeps getting into trouble, when all she really wants to do is play. The story was inspired by actual events that occurred when the author was a volunteer raising an “only puppy” for Canine Companions for Independence. Canine Companions provides service dogs to open doors, turn on lights, and pull wheelchairs for children and adults with disabilities. A portion of the revenue generated from the sale of this book will be donated to Canine Companions. Goldie, the retriever, had been expecting pups for weeks.
But when the special day came, only one pup was delivered.
"Where are all the others?" said the mother to her pup.
"Where are all your brothers and sisters?"
"It's only me," said the only puppy.
"Who will you play with?" asked Goldie.
"I could play with you."
"And so you shall."
For the next six weeks,
Goldie fed and groomed ...
and played ...
and played ...
and played with her only puppy.
