This book has been given to me for free in exchange for an honest review. First let me preference this review by saying I would suggest reading the first book in this series first. This is set in a world with many supernatural creatures. Humans don't know about them, although there are groups that work with them. I found a little difficulty figuring out what was what and who was who (as far as good guys bad guys, still not really sure) for the first half of the book. Reylan, is the Blood Shade who's perspective the story is told. I didn't really feel one way or the other for him or his Mannequin's (humans who become a slave to a Blood Shade, and are dependent on their blood for survival). Jorgas is a werewolf who Reylan has a relationship with. More than just sex but the relationship is complicated to say exactly what it is. Jorgas's father plays a very small role in this book. People and creatures come together to eliminate a hellish beast. I read this book and then read the first book. I definitely got a much better understanding of what was going on after doing that. With only Reylans perspective, I didn't care for any of the characters more than basic consideration. Maybe a little for Jorgas because we did get more of his background. Interesting world.
