A lucidly written look at Renaissance and Baroque images of the subject of the Passion of Christ. It is placed in a religious context and the context of the art of 14th through 17th centries. Beautiful illustrations are accompanied by clear descriptions of the images, and the chapter openers set the stage for them. A real harmonization of the art, history, and relious aspects of the subject matter. Not only a beautiful book, but a joy to read!

This book contains over 100 high quality reproductions of Renaissance and Baroque artwork, including masterpieces by Michaelangelo, DaVinci, Bosch, El Greco and Titian. Detailed captions by the author give insite to the intricacies of each painting. The book is arranged into seven chapters which set the context for the paintings presented. You will be moved by the powerful story of the Passion and awed by the beautiful artworks of the masters when you read The Passion of Christ. Highly recommended.
