"A tale about Lucifer’s son that deftly draws in readers with engrossing characters." — Kirkus Reviews

What if Paradise Lost was based on a true story?

When someone finds a human spleen in the bushes inside a Philadelphia park, FBI Agent Zan O'Gara is called to investigate. Through the case, she meets the stunning Rainer Barakiel, who captures her thoughts, and libido, in ways that both frighten and thrill her. Rainer is a superhuman warrior from another dimension exiled to Earth for the sins of his father, Lucifer, who rebelled against the rulers of their realm. When Rainer meets the fearless Zan he cannot get her out of his mind, even though love with a human is forbidden by the laws of his homeworld. His superhuman passion overwhelms the fact that his love is placing her in danger. The warrior has enemies, you see, his own father the greatest among them.

The Passion Season by Libby Doyle is the first in a series and delivers a wonderful set up for what is to come. Described as urban fantasy, I found that the book was actually an incredible mix of some of my favorite genres, blending mystery, action, and romance in with the urban fantasy. I’ll be the first to tell you that I’m pretty tired of books about demons, but Libby does an awesome job of making this story feel completely separate from all the others. Yes, it’s about Lucifer’s son, but it’s not that simple. The race of Covalents is a unique and well thought out approach to the traditional Angels vs Demons. I really enjoyed the different classifications of the Covalents and their individual talents. The romance in the book between Zan and Barakiel is well paced. It felt real and never forced. The delay in physical contact was perfectly done, so that by the time they finally got together, I was pumping my fist in the air in celebration! Though, let’s be honest, Barakiel’s being a total badass warrior was my favorite part of the book. Killer fight scenes and a really solid hero for me to get behind. Great story, but definitely for adults only!

Reviewed by K.J. Simmill for Readers' Favorite The Passion Season: Book I of the Covalent Series by Libby Doyle is a truly amazing urban fantasy guaranteed to set the heart aflutter and the pulse racing. At the start it follows Rainer Barakiel, son of Lucifer, as he is exiled from his home. He is a Covalent, a race that, above all things, must find a balance between the energies of creation and destruction. His father, Lucifer, was a traitor, and gained control over the realm of destruction and all those who dwelt within. Relentlessly, he sends his forces against the Covalent, hoping to seize control, whilst also sending his minions to the earthly realm where the son he wished to win over was exiled. Loneliness threatens to engulf Rainer, but he finds unexpected friendship from Pellus, an adept assigned to him who shields his activities from mortal eyes. Empires rise and fall, his time passes in a combination of business and battle, and longing for home. But then he finds it in the most unexpected place, in the arms of a human known as Zan, and finds in her a kindred spirit. Zan, (Alexandra O'Gara), is no stranger to turmoil. She has a warrior’s soul and has survived more than most should ever witness in life; a former army veteran, a recovering alcoholic, who now works as an agent for the FBI. She has no interest in men but is helplessly drawn towards him, and both have secrets they would rather remained buried. With the war between realms and the uncovering of sacrificial cults, Zan grows closer to discovering a truth that could put her very life in jeopardy, one that Rainer must shield her from, or risk what they have become. If I could give any more than five stars, I would. Libby Doyle has a vivid descriptive voice, allowing the crafting of beautifully scripted romance, epic conflicts, and heart pounding action. Clear thought has gone into every aspect of the plot, from the inner workings of magic, to the dividing of realms in a fantastic manner. The Passion Season: Book I of the Covalent Series truly is a book you won’t want to put down. Written in alternating character points of view, we are given glimpses into the psyche of some very real, well-constructed characters. It has everything; good vs evil, conflict, friendship, betrayal, and some smoking hot sex scenes, which at no point were anything other than beautifully written. Engaging, page turning, thrilling, I just couldn’t put it down. One thing is for certain, Libby has been added to my top author list so I remember to keep an eye out for the next book in this epic, fantastic series.

Libby Doyle’s first installment of her Covalent Series is urban fantasy taken to the next level. Her powers of description and the poetic rhythms of her prose bring alive the otherworldly elements of the story. You’ll vividly experience the Covalent Realm and the byways of Philadelphia. At the center of this saga is a tragic superhuman hero who for centuries has been paying the price for an unspeakable evil that has made him an outcast to his kind (but also a useful tool for them) and a lovely troubled FBI agent who is utterly unlike any human being he has met in, well, hundreds of years. The two find love and sex (lots) and joy, but can they ever be truly together? Will circumstances they cannot control tear them apart? With all this there is a lot of good music, both are gifted musicians in different genres, a gruesome mystery to solve, religious mythology, devious criminals and a faithful, powerful Covalent compatriot who is one of the best sidekicks I’ve come across. Mix in Doyle’s effortless way with dialogue that always rings true, whether it’s breaking your heart or making you laugh out loud. — and you have a terrific tale you’ll find hard to put down. Sign me up for Book II.

Loved this story from beginning to end! The characters were so realistic for a quasi-fantasy setting and the dialogue was so funny. I couldn't put it down! 5 stars!
