Gr 5-8-These attractive, informational books are part of a 16-title series on all aspects of the history, geography, and culture of Mexico. Famous People gives historical and biographical information and portraits of well-known ancient leaders, conquerors, revolutionaries, politicians, intellectuals, artists, and writers as well as a rare look at extraordinary women in history such as Sor Juana de la Cruz, Empress Carlota, and Frida Kahlo. People includes chapters on the Olmecs, Mayans, Aztecs, mestizos, criollos, mulattos, and indigenous Mexicans. History repeats some of the information in the books on people and famous people. The layout includes beautiful color photos, relevant sidebars throughout, and different colored backgrounds for pages in each chapter. It is not necessary to purchase all of the titles since there is overlap, but school libraries would do well to have some of them for research material.-Kristina Aaronson, Henniker Community School, NH Copyright 2002 Cahners Business Information.
