It’s the season of second chances in this heartwarming, contemporary holiday romance where two single parents find each other—and another chance at love—in the most unexpected of places!

’Tis the night before Christmas…and businessman and single father Jason is scrambling to find the dollhouse of the season for his seven-year-old daughter Emily. But when he finally strikes gold at an obscure toy store, he’s met with resistance—literally, as a beautiful woman named Leah is grabbing onto the dollhouse box from the other side of the aisle, determined to get the same Christmas present for her own daughter.

Desperate not to let the other win, Jason and Leah forge a pact: stay together until they find the same dollhouse at a different toy store. It sounds simple, but ten stores and many hours later, they still come up empty. They might not be finding another dollhouse, but they sure are finding a lot to talk about and, as their mutual attraction grows, the unlikely pair finds the greatest holiday gift of all—love.

This Christmas Novella is really cute. If you’re looking for a really short read that is fun and light, you’ll find it here. It’s really adorable. Single parents, Jason and Leah are both determined to get the same gift for each of their 7 year old daughters for Christmas. Unfortunately, there is only one left and they are stuck in a tug of war (literally and figuratively) for the toy. When they first meet, despite their animosity, they have a spark that quickly becomes a very strong attraction. They strike a deal and set off on a hunt for another toy. Along the way, they learn about each other, their attraction continues to grow, and they find themselves loathe for the time when they find the treasure and have to part.  As I said, it’s a very cute novella. That being said, it’s also very cliché. I have no problem with “insta-love” in a story. The novella is even a little short for that concept, but I feel like she made it work for the most part. What bothered me the most was the constant proof that each of them was a good person, and a good parent, and a good….etc. The author painted them to be a little too perfect. I could easily see this becoming a Hallmark movie. And, while that’s not a bad thing per say, Hallmark movies are often too sugary and sappy. Unfortunately, that’s where this novella fell for me.  However, like those sappy, happy movies, this book left me with the warm fuzzies. It’s a short and sweet, make you smile, kind of story. Honestly, I think this novella would have been better off as a full length novel.  With a little more time spent on animosity, then a longer build up to realizing that they have the makings for a great relationship, etc…this could make for a slightly more believable, and less cliché. But, overall, I enjoyed it and the warm fuzzies always bump my rating. I’d give it a 3.5, but it’s worth rounding up.

I definitely enjoyed reading this short holiday story. It was fun, easy to read and quite relaxing. And as an added bonus, it definitely put me in a Christmas mood.  Jason and Leah are really great characters and their story caught my attention from the beginning :) Jason is definitely fun I have to say that quite often he put himself in situations that really made me laugh. I mean, come on, the carolers incident was just epic and I am not even going to talk about the toy trucks. That was just insanely funny :D. At the same time both characters are shown as amazing parents, ready to do everything for their young daughters, and that just makes them even more lovable in my book. Especially considering their difficult pasts. Jason and Leah are so alike and they just fit perfectly together. I immensely enjoyed their interactions through the time they had to spend together. The little ways they were showing their affection towards each other was just so romantic :) I think my favorite moment was the epilogue when they are together with the kids. It was just the perfect ending of this sweet romantic story :) In a few words, the story is fun to read and I definitely enjoyed it. In a way, everything was a bit cheesy, but definitely amusing and entertaining. I definitely recommend the book for those cold winter nights when you need your mood lifted. But keep in mind that you are really getting a sweet romantic Christmas story :)

Actual rating 3.5 out of 5 Stars! Originally posted on my blog: Tangled Up In Books I received a copy of this book from InkSlinger PR, for a blog tour, in exchange for an honest review. In no way did this sway either my review or my rating! Holy cute and sweetness overload with this book! It really is a shame that it was so freaking short. I started it next thing I knew it was done and I was pretty bummed! I wanted more of the cuteness. By the time I realized that this was a novella I had a little bit of panic seep in because normally that can only mean one thing. Insta-love. This book is basically about a two day time period from beginning to end so thankfully for The Perfect Gift that didn't happen to be the case. There were no declarations of love by the end or immediately hopping into bed together. It was just two people who had lots in common, a lot of similarities when it came to their parental situation and over the period of the book the base of a strong connection formed. Of course there was an instant attraction but that's only natural and the sparks...were pretty intense. I was highly relieved. I've never read anything by Dani-Lyn Alexander before but I loved and was very excited by the summary and knew I had to give this one a try because it was just calling out to me the possibility of being a very fun read. I wasn't disappointed, well except for it being too quick! But that's more in a complimentary way as I didn't want it to end. It really put me in the holiday mood and I could just picture these two scrambling around at the last minute trying to be super parents and get their kids the perfect gifts. Both Jason and Leah were great characters. You could tell they were both awesome, caring and loving parents that would do anything to make their kids happy. They worked hard and devoted any free time they had to their girls. It was so heartwarming! Both of them were also funny and full of humorous moments. I enjoyed the fact that for once the guy in the story had the curse of being a bit on the klutzy side. I laughed out loud a couple times, right along with Leah, as Jason found himself on the ground. It was funny, it was sweet and it plastered a smile on my face. A perfect and quick book to snuggle up with and read when you're feeling the holiday spirit. I really liked this one and look forward to giving more from Dani-Lyn Alexander a read in the future.

*Copy provided as part of the blog tour* A sweet, short story, holiday romance that will make you realize that the perfect gift is not as simple as something that can be seen or touched. It has to be felt. Nothing much to be said about the book with only 80 pages that will not give away the story. I promise that this is a good read for this season of you are looking for a fast, easy read that will make you go “aahhhh”. This is one of the stories that has a good plot and ending but at the same time, you’ll be wanting for more. :D To Dani-Lyn, thank you for the early Christmas present. To N of Inkslinger PR, thanks as well!
