Overview

The Phoenix by Val Niblett

The major changes in Melba’s life began with her brother Richard’s marriage to Jane and their immediate departure to fulfil Richard’s work commitment abroad. Although Melba missed her brother, she was happy as she loved her job with a well-known car-making firm, and she enjoyed the challenges brought about by her boss, Wesley. Melba and Wesley’s regard for one another was evident to all of their colleagues from the beginning and being his personal secretary meant that Melba worked closely side by side with Wesley. Their relationship flourished as their joint involvement in unexpected developments in the company’s interests draws them together.

About the Author

Val Niblett was born in Kenfig Hill – at the time a small village – about five miles away from Bridgend and Porthcawl, which she loved to visit. Her husband and two daughters were also born there, but in the seventies they moved to Bridgend, where Val was a local Government Officer until her retirement. She and her husband then travelled a great deal for several years, and this period of their life together came to an end when he was diagnosed with incurable cancer and lived only four more months. The trauma of those months was with Val for years, but in the end writing short romances helped her to properly grieve. This book is a tribute to the love of her life, and she recalls with some amusement the names he called his cars over the years.
