The Pigeon Pie Mystery by Julia Stuart

When Indian Princess Alexandrina—nickname “Mink”—is left penniless by the sudden death of her father, Queen Victoria grants her a grace-and-favor home in Hampton Court Palace. Though it’s rumored to be haunted, Mink and her lady’s maid, Pooki, have no choice but to take the Queen up on her offer and join the palace’s eccentric collection of guests. But when a reviled General-Major dies after eating a pie Pooki made, it makes her the number one suspect in a murder investigation.
Not about to let her faithful servant hang, Mink begins an investigation of her own. . . only to discover that Hampton Court isn't such a safe place to live after all.

I really enjoyed The Pigeon Pie Mystery by Julia Stuart. I have read all her books starting with the Matchmaker of Perigord, The Tower, The Zoo and the Tortoise, and now her third novel, The Pigeon Pie Mystery where Ms. Stuart takes us back to the Victorian times. I did not think I would enjoy this so much, but would rate it her best novel to date. She has a refreshing style, although each one of her books are quite different. You will love Mink and Pooki, not to mention a stellar cast of supporting characters. You will even get a history lesson as we read about the London of those times. (She does her research very thoroughly). Ms.Stuart keeps us guessing and the conclusion is not entirely predictable. Definitely an author to add to your list.

I think if they took this book and made a movie it would be hilarious. That being said it didn't really work in book form for me, hard for me to even type that because I have always felt that the Book is ALWAYS better than the movie but for the first time ever I have to say not this book. The attempt at humor felt a bit forced and it drug on with lots of details that really didn't have anything to do with the story or the plot. I think it could be made into a wonderful spoof movie like Young Frankenstein. I think this is the first book I have disappointed in that I found recommended by O magazine.

A witty and charming book that I thought way very well written. Although it was slow at parts I thoroughly enjoyed this book!

A wonderful journey off the beaten path with plenty of beautifully written dry humor.

I simply could not put this book down! The cast of characters were delightful, and the chapters seemed to just melt away. Along with the two previous books, this will be one book you will be glad to read. In fact, I think this one was my favorite!
