I have read everyone of Kelly's book and this one was just as good as the last. I get sucked in to her stories and can't seem to put the book down til the end. Can't wait for her next one.

Wow! And I'm not talking about dirty talking Brett. Though i grew to like him it was the story telling that got this book a 5. I've been a fan of Kelly's for a few years. I've read every single book of hers. I loved some, i liked some and well...you can't like all of them. Anyway, this is the first time i've seen such a huge growth in her writing skills. This wasn't my favorite story line but my favorite writing of hers. I don't know what changed but I hope she keeps it up. It's a good mix of sexy and sweet with a really good story.

Not the typical book you would expect from this author, however it was still an amazing read. The love struggles for Brett and Aubrey to find what they truly want and fight for their love.

As with most readers, I’m sure, there is a list of authors that I am devoted to. It’s a long enough list that with new releases coming out regularly, they keep me fairly busy. Once in a while, though, the synopsis for a book comes along from an author I haven’t read before, and it piques my interest. The Playbook is one of those, and it’s the first book I’ve read from author Kelly Elliott. The thing struggled with most about this book has nothing to do with the actual story. The innumerable sentences beginning with ing words became a distraction for me early in the book. While I know that is an accepted writing style, it happened so often that, as a reader, I became preoccupied to the point that it became difficult for me to concentrate on the story. Both of the main characters had me conflicted in my feelings for them. Brett, at times, came off as lacking respect for women, and that condition never quiet resolved itself, in my opinion. Don’t get me wrong, there’s not a thing wrong with a dirty-talking lover, but it seemed like when Brett used them, it sounded crass and vulgar, rather than sexy and seductive. In a way, it felt like his strategy to keep women at arm’s length, more times than not using those words as weapon more than foreplay, making it difficult for me to warm up to him as “sexy.” On the other hand, Brett’s devotion to his family and his roots was heartwarming. It was clear that he put his family first, not just now, but even more so in the past as he made his career choices. With the evolution of the story, Brett’s commitment to his parents developed more and more, so that by the time the story was reaching its conclusion, he had transformed his image. Aubrey’s character was also equal parts frustrating and likable. Fighting to earn her place in a man’s world – on the NFL sidelines – Aubrey is dedicated and committed to her career ambitions. Her resilience with both her boss and Brett’s attempts to see her fail was inspiring. On the other hand, I found Aubrey’s yes-I-want-him, no-I-don’t inner dialogue a bit tedious at times. Ultimately, however, I was pleased that she stayed true to what she saw for herself, rather than conceding based on what others wanted. The Playbook book lived up to the anticipation promised by the synopsis. It was an enjoyable read with good plot and character development, and a narrative that continued to move the story along. The ending was a little abrupt, but by the time the story nearing its conclusion, it was fairly predictable where it was going, so it was really okay. Four stars.

Aubrey Cain's dream is to be a sideline reporter in the NFL. She believes that writing a piece about Brett Owens, head football coach for the University of Austin, will make her boss realize that she's ready for the NFL. She knows about his reputation as a playboy and a player and doesn't want to follow him around for weeks. Brett Owens doesn't want some ESPN reporter following him around for a month. But to keep his job, he has to do it. After they meet and start to get to know each other, they both realize that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. But will Brett change his playboy behavior? Will Aubrey risk her career? Will they have their happily-ever-after? I loved The Playbook! The story is amazing and sucked me from the first page. It took me in a rollercoaster ride of emotions and I couldn't stop reading. It has lots of laughter, drama, and hot sexy scenes. And the twists? Amazing! I really liked how Brett and Aubrey's relationship developed and their chemistry. It was off the charts! I loved that the story was told from Aubrey's and Brett's POVs. I loved getting inside Brett's head! Aubrey Cain is a smart, independent, funny, fierce, and sassy woman. She knows what she wants and works hard for it. But meeting Brett made her start questioning her future. Brett Owens is a dirty talking playboy. He was once a professional football player but decided to leave the NFL and became the head football coach for the University of Austin. He is happy with his lifestyle until he meets Aubrey. Once again, Kelly Elliott gives us a phenomenal book, with an amazing story and great characters. It has everything a good book must have and you won't be able to stop reading!

This story line combines the elements of football, following one's dreams, and following one's heart. I loved the juxtaposition of a dirty-talking hero and a sweet heroine. Loved this book.
