Overview

The story of God's revelation to a simple shepherd; a new testament story lived in old testament times.

An orphaned and nameless slave called only Jael, meaning "mountain goat," is left to tend the village flocks. He sees the revelation of God all around him. He learns that the rainbow is a sign of God's covenant spoken to Noah. Jael runs off to find Shem, a son of Noah, who confirms God is calling him and his new gift of praising God in song is the sign of his calling. Shem teaches him and tells him a new name is reserved for him if he continues to seek God. His journey takes him to Salem where King Melchizedek disciples him and confides that God has one thing against him. Jael must confront God's indictment. Melchizedek sends him home to shepherd his village masters. Jael faces personal tragedy and doubt in his new flock, but through it all, his encounter with God in Melchizedek's garden is his solid foundation of faith.

Jael's journey, like ours, is a lifelong struggle to keep his promise to God, to first love God and then love all men.

About the Author

David Martyn lives in Gig Harbor, Washington with his wife Karen. Retired from a career in the Maritime Industry, he can keep watch over the ships passing to and from Tacoma and the Vashon Island Ferry. He still loves the sea, the ships, and the men and women who sail and service them. Like any who is awed by God’s creation can attest, God reveals Himself and sets us on a journey of discovery that brings us by the revelation of God’s Word, to the very heart of God. David’s love of Scripture, has been strengthened by years of home Bible Study groups, which brought insight on Bible passages and confirmation of God working in the lives of His people. Hours of sitting with brothers and sisters pouring over Scripture helped put flesh on the bones and blood in the veins of the men and women of the Bible. Real people who struggled with sin and doubt. Men who failed God time and again, yet by the grace of God were victorious and today wear the victor’s crown. It is David’s hope that his stories awaken the seed of revelation God planted in the reader’s heart, provides a fresh love for the fathers of our faith and brings hope to a new generation.
