This Wu offering has it all. The Ghost is back and those of you who loved Supreme Clientele will love this isht. The intro is bold.........Ghost answers questions about were he's been, what's going on with Wu-Tang, and even includes some veiled references to current foes 50 Cent and G Unit. The album kicks into the bouncy Biscuits which has an impressive beat and rap by Ghost...the chorus is stretching for anthem status and falls short. A guest appearance by Trife falls flat (ordinary) and I found myself grumbling about the TOTAL LACK of guest appearances by fellow Wu members. The RZA produced Kunta Fly Isht is a short track that thumps with a raw feel, and leads into the hilariously fly Beat the Clock. Further on, Ghost uses his trademark delivery and vintage soul and R&B samples to deliver what can be a great party or driving tape. The radio-aimed Tush with Missy Elliott is uninspired club fare that will probably offend Wu-purists. Still the album recovers nicely with Holla set to the beat of La La La I Love You. The pace picks up with more with Still the Same, and the funny and original Tooken Back......a playful homage to rekindled relationships. The album closes with Love, a sentimental shout out to those in Ghost's life, friends and enemies alike. The album overall is very strong with a few regrettable duds, but it is still great fun. It is raw and creative enough to satisfy Wu-Enthusiasts, but I wished the RZA had more of a hand in the production. Still, it is also accessible enough to sell, bring new listeners into the Wu-Mansion, and maybe even get a little (edited) radio play.
