There are plenty of laughs, good advice, and valuable examples of TV scriptwriting in this worthwhile book, which includes the complete script of the author's TV movie. Shanks covers agents, unions, contracts, production, and writing in a readable, nonacademic manner. He gives the names of people to contact and provides a lot of behind-the-scenes information needed by budding scriptwriters. There is an excellent account of how Roots was produced and a history of TV movies and ratings that could make the book useful in the classroom. The book concludes with a list of agents. Recommended.
