About the Author

Carol E. Ayer has wanted to be a writer since she first taught herself to read at age four. She memorized the typewriter keyboard at age eight, knowing that writers had to learn how to type. Her first rejection slips came in around the same time, when she submitted short stories and a novel to various publications. Rather than dampen her enthusiasm, the rejections fueled her desire to continue writing. She's had better luck as an adult. (Even though she still gets rejected!) Some of her successes include short stories published by Woman's World, I Love Cats, and True Story, among others. The Princess and the Poison is her first published full-length novel.

Carol is a lifelong fan of storybook parks, a love that originated when she visited Children's Fairyland in Oakland, California countless times as a child. She worked at Fairyland in the 1980s and is proud to say that the park later inspired several works of fiction, including The Princess and the Poison. Carol currently lives in Northern California with her cat, Sammie.

Living in a storybook land sounds like it would be wonderful, but a touch of reality enters this realm and things turn grim. Ashling has to solve the crime and save not only her friend, but the park itself! Truly an enjoyable read that kept me guessing!

This is a great book; this book this the first book in the Storybook Park Mystery series written by Carol Ayer. Ashling Cleary is the owner and manager of a storybook theme park in Northern California. Ashling hopes things will turn around when she lands the hot Hollywood actress Katrina Irvine to star in the lead of their summer Sleeping Beauty play. But when Katrina is murdered—right in the middle of a performance! Ashling's luck goes from bad to worse. And when her best friend becomes the number one suspect, it's up to Ashling to figure out who the true killer is before anyone else comes to a not-so-fairytale ending in her park. This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. This book will keep you reading long into the night. If you are looking for a great book, then you need to read this book. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this new series. A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.

Ashling Cleary owns and operates a theme park in northern California called “StoryWorld”, a storybook park. This was a very unique plot which used many storybook names for the various parts of the park. Ashling is hosting a summer play series and is surprised that a popular, young actress, Katrina Irvine, volunteers to be involved in the series. Unfortunately, Katrina seems more interested in complaining and upsetting the entire staff of the park, than performing for the children. During a performance, Katrina meets an untimely death and the various park staff are considered suspects in her death. You are kept guessing as to who wanted Katrina dead and how she was killed. The end of the book satisfactorily wraps up the entire mystery. This was book #1 of the series and I look forward to the second book in the series. A very nice cozy mystery, no graphic violence or explicit sex. I received an ARC from the publisher for purposes of an unbiased review. (by paytonpuppy)

An Amusing Mystery in an Amusement Park! In this debut mystery series, readers are introduced to Ashling Cleary, the very earnest and hopeful owner of StoryWorld theme park. She’s managed to book the celebrity actress of the moment, Katrina Irvine, to star as Sleeping Beauty, in the hope of attracting customers and boosting attendance. Katrina turns out to be more of a villain than a storybook princess though, and her diva-like attitude alienates even her biggest fans on staff. It may have only been a matter of time until someone murders her, but Ashling would really have preferred that it didn’t occur in her beloved park, or that her best friend would become the most probable suspect. This is a very entertaining novel that has fun with setting, and maintains the light-hearted tone throughout. The glimpses into the workings of an amusement park are fascinating, as are the interactions between the staff. Ashling may be young, but she is clever and intelligent enough make be a capable investigator. Loaded with humor and heart, this is a delightful and promising start to a new series.

A murder mystery, in a theme park that has many suspects, humor, friends and romance. You won’t be able to put it down and will still be guessing who did it until the very end.

Imagine a murder at Storybook Park! Not exactly the fairytale one would expect. Great characters! A very enjoyable, quirky, fun read. Ashling Cleary the owner/manager is quite a classy lady until things get crazy, then she is a sleuth to be dealt with.
