Overview

The words people use say a lot about them. Some words say that they are smart, persuasive, and informed. Others say that they don't know what they're talking about. Knowing which words to use and how to use them are keys to getting the most from one's mind and to communicating effectively.

Based on the best-selling book, Word Smart CD will help listeners learn the words they absolutely need to know. To find these words, The Princeton Review researched the vocabularies of educated adults. It analyzed newspapers like The New York Times and the Wall Street Journal, books from best-sellers to the classics, and standardized tests like the SAT and GRE. The words included in this interactive program are those that appear most frequently and are often misused or misunderstood.

I bought this to listen to while I commute while I studied for the GRE. It was a lot of help, and I feel it was a worthwhile investment. I wish someone would do an audio CD targeted specifically at the most common GRE words, similar to the vocabulary building books published by a number of companies.

I was very reluctant to order this program after reading the following review (with only two stars). However, it seemed to be the biggest seller of vocabulary programs on the Barnes and Noble website so I cautiously proceeded in buying the program. I too like to drive and listen to educational CD's and found this program to be very beneficial in building my vocabulary. First, they give you a definition of the word. Then use it in an appropriate sentence. Finally, they use a cluster of words in and entertaining story. I would highly recommend this program.

I was looking for something fun that I could listen to while driving that would be beneficial to broadening my vocabulary. This program is not the program to do so with. Other programs make it interesting and fun by having the listener 'eavesdrop' on fun conversations and games, while this program is a lot more rigid. This is still a good resource, but it just requires more work from the listener and research.
