From #1 New York Times bestselling author Lauren Blakely comes a scintillating forbidden romance between a director and his actress...

The first rule of directing is simple: Never fall for your leading lady.
The second? Don't let it get to you when she stage kisses another man.
Looks like I've already broken both. Now my jealous, possessive heart wants all of her – the ingenue who's the star of my next show. I'm captivated by her raw talent, her addictive charm, and her desperate need for me.
Soon we're staying late in the empty theater, our private rehearsals spiraling into forbidden territory.
Exactly where I can't go. Then I'd break the most dangerous rule of all.
 Don't give her your heart.

Because how can I be sure that what she feels is real and not a part of the play?

Author's Note: The Private Rehearsal was previously titled Playing With Her Heart. It has been significantly revised and updated. I hope you enjoy this new edition of one of my first novels!

Fantastically written story that pulled me in. It made me feel happy, it was compelling, and intense. I loved the characters, how they developed and grew. When they were playful with one another it was wonderful and when it was serious it was so emotional. I loved it all! I think Jill McCormick and Davis Milo are great characters. From the start I’m curious about both of them and their pasts. Davis is drawn to Jill and her to him but they both seem to be in major denial even though the pull they have on one another is obvious. As the story moves along, the two of them together is intense. I think everything unfolds perfectly and really enjoyed it. I was captured by Jill and Davis, their romance, and how they came together. I really enjoyed the fact that this story is written from different POV’s. I always think it’s fun to see a woman through a guys point of view. I also liked the fact that Davis only has eyes for Jill. He is so darn sweet and I had a few awwww moments while reading. I loved the fact that he was possessive in a loving way and not a caveman way. I enjoyed Jill’s POV’s as well, watching her grow and come to terms with her past. She was so guarded for so long, opening up truly made her stronger in the end. There were a lot of hot scenes, there’s a nice build. Davis sure has a way with words – he’s a talker, he’s got a nice yet dirty mouth *cough*. I like how the sex scenes are written, they didn't seem cheesy or overdone. There was also some series subject matter in this book and I thought it was artfully woven. I thought it was gripping and relevant. The foreshadowing for it was well written also. Perfect mix of drama and lightheartedness. I was completely absorbed! ARC received in exchange for an honest review.

If you've followed all of Lauren Blakely's books than you know exactly who Jill McCormick is. She is the sister of Chris from Trophy Husband -and my favorite Blakely boy (yeah I'm totally copy writing that :-P). She is also besties with Kat from Caught Up in Us and Reeve from Pretending He's Mine. So you almost feel like you already know her when you begin this book. She's been in the background of all of Lauren's books and I was so happy to see she was front and center in this one. Jill is an aspiring actress and begins the book with the audition of a lifetime. She breathes and embodies the character. She is an amazing actress. And you learn pretty quickly that the theatre isn't necessarily the only place she's acting. Six years ago something irrevocably shaped Jill. It caused her to fear and doubt the deep emotions of a relationship and because of that she hasn't really been in much of one. She puts on a facade of being happy-go-lucky when truth be told she is skittish and nervous and afraid that if she gets too close not only will she be hurt, but she will hurt the other person as well. But nothing touches her when she steps onto the stage. And director Davis Milo sees this immediately. ~But acting is really all I've ever done. Acting like I'm fine. Acting like what happened back then...wasn't all my fault. I suppose now, six years later, I'm mostly fine. People who know me say I'm carefree, laid back, happy go lucky. Sometimes I truly am. Other times, I've become so damn good at the appearance of moving on that I even believe the illusion. Fake it until you make it, right? ~ Davis is a hugely acclaimed Broadway and Hollywood director. He knows talent when he sees it and he sees no one but Jill as the heroine Ava in his play. He knows while watching her audition he is witnessing the next big thing. But of course he has bosses he needs to answer to who wants already established, money-making names filling the theatre seats. So, although she doesn't get cast as the lead, she gets the understudy a huge break in Jill's career. And it also doesn't hurt that her long-time crush Patrick is the lead actor. She has fantasized of him for the last 6 years, her thoughts of him helped distract Jill enough to get thru the events that scarred her. And now, working in the same play, she will be able to get to know him better and possibly even have him fall in love with her. There is only one little hiccup with that and that hiccup's name is Davis Milo. Davis does not date actresses. He has been burned in the past by them and has learned enough to not repeat past mistakes, but there is something about Jill that calls to him. He sees the masks she puts up that no one else notices and it intrigues him. It makes him want to see what made her put them there to begin with. He's attracted to her and she him. But he also sees the worship she feels for Patrick and wants no part of it. Davis is the ultimate Alpha Male in all it's yumminess. ~I let go of my hold on the sink, turn off the water, and dry my hands, each move a step in my new strategy. Because I’m not the director for nothing. I make the %#&ing rules. I can change the rules. I can make the rules work for me. She’s not mine, but she can’t be his. I return to the rehearsal room, sit down next to her, and take some small bit of victory when she looks away from him and at me. “You’re not going to rehearse with Brayden,” I tell her. She looks crestfallen. “Why? I don’t understand.” “Because I’m going to rehearse you as Ava. You’ll rehearse with me.”~ And here is where they start breaking down each others walls. They begin to quickly fall for one another. And holy crap their scorching (and man do I mean SCORCHING) chemistry! You will blush. You will require a fan. But as much as the heat is extremely present and fun to read it's the relationship that develops between the two that is the best part to watch. You want them to expose each others vulnerabilities and make each other whole. And when Jill's secret is finally out in the open, it's heartbreaking. But Davis is there for her every step of the way. ~Something about the way he looks at me makes me want to tell him things, to open up, to share all sorts of secrets I've never told anyone else. His dark blue eyes are so pure and unflinching that they seem to demand nothing less than total honesty. "Because we will hurt each other, and we will fight, and we will argue. And sometimes it'll be less than perfect. But it'll be real. Every second of it will be completely real." ~ I'm telling you I LOVED this book. It's got a little bit of everything. The steamy scenes, the sweet love and the heartbreak that Jill went thru. And you've got friendship. Davis was not the only one there for Jill. Kat, Reeve and Chris all made appearances. While she was there for each of them, supporting them in there stories, they were also here for, supporting and listening to and unconditionally loving her in this one. Chris may be my favorite Blakely boy, but Playing With Her Heart is my favorite Blakely book.

From the start the storyline captivates you. You are drawn into this love affair. Very steamy. Davis Milo, director, is the perfect man. He's erotic yet he is a true romantic. Because of his past relationship, he's very guarded with his heart and refuses to date any actress, but he takes one look at Jill and throws all caution to the wind. He has to have her Jill also has a past and has some deep locked secrets, yet she is very attracted to Davis Milo. He brings out the passion in her and unlocks her deepest secrets. Totally loved, loved, loved this book. Did not want it to end.

This novel is the perfect example of why I have a passion for reading. My declaration of profound love for Playing With Her Heart is going to be long so if you’re looking for a short version, here it is: BUY THIS NOVEL BECAUSE IT IS OUT-OF-THIS-WORLD MAGNIFICIENT. Now on to the good stuff… My mind is still spinning and I’m completely wrapped around this novel’s little finger. I am a HUGE Lauren Blakely fan and I devour everything she releases. I love her writing and it is effortless to read. This is my favorite of her work, my favorite book I’ve ever read… impossible to beat. Playing With Her Heart is the type of novel that keeps you up at night even long after the last word was read. The impact it had on me was mesmerizing and extremely permanent. I was hanging on every exquisitely written word like it was a life line. Jill McCormick is fantastic female lead and her story melted my heart. She is a talented rising Broadway star that lands an opportunity of a lifetime when she catches Davis Milo’s eye during her audition for his upcoming production. Jill is dedicated, driven, and an amazing actress on and off the stage. She can easily flip her emotions and slip on a mask to hide what lingers deep within her. Sadly, Jill lost her true self 6 years ago after a tragic incident changed her life. She hasn’t forgiven herself or been able to move past it. She clutches onto this fantasy of a fairy tale romance because that is the only way to make sure no one gets hurt ever again. “It’s a good thing I can act, because sometimes my whole life feels like one.” Davis Milo is the greatest character I’ve stumbled upon in a long, long time. He is deep, complex, and complicated plus a bit jaded from his past. Davis is made of iron and has a hardened heart but he quickly finds himself breaking his rules for Jill. Underneath his suit of armor there is a loving and romantic man with a kinky side. I have never been happier about dual POV because being inside of Davis’ head was the sexiest thing I have ever experienced. He is this extreme alpha male with a dirty mind but has a super soft spot for Jill. Jill feels instantly comfortable and at ease with Davis because she feels no threat of anything serious forming. There is simmering sexual tension that radiates from them. Davis opens Jill up and makes her feel things… makes her want and desire. He is all passion and power, it drips off of him and leaks from the pages. I loved that I didn’t have to wait until halfway through for them get together. Right away our appetites are soothed with scrumptious episodes of Jill and Davis. There is plenty of angst and action from the first page. Their chemistry is off the charts smoking HOT! Lauren Blakely really turned up the heat in this one! The intensity had me constantly fanning my face and dreaming about the phenomenal Davis Milo. I’m still floating on ‘Cloud-Davis’ and it has been weeks! “I want you to kiss me now. I want you to kiss me slowly. Kiss me like I’m the woman you’re breaking all your rules for.” Davis and Jill have a bond that is far more than just physical. It does take them some time to decide it is worth the risk to allow love in but once they do it adds another mind blowing level to their story. The love they share is indescribable… absolutely stunning! He helps her escape the dark place that has been holding her captive for six years. Every emotion and feeling bled off the page and seeped directly into my heart. I am captivated by this glorious couple! "I don't know what I would have done without you. I was lost. I was totally lost, and I had no idea how much I needed you until you walked through my door. I'm so glad you found me." I feel like I’m in this little bubble of pure and utter happiness from the extreme response I had from this novel. I’m hopelessly in love with this book! I found “the one” in Playing With Her Heart. The one novel I’ve been searching for that completely destroys me for all others to follow. Finding a story like this is rare and an absolute treasure. I strongly recommend it for anyone and everyone because it has a little bit of everything to enjoy. Where do you go after finding the definition of novel perfection? We shall see… 5+ breathtaking, heart racing, knock-your-socks-off, swoon worthy, brilliant Diamonds! H from BestSellers & BestStellars

You are in for a Steamy & Emotional Ride! The Director! Davis Milo is the ideal Man! If he was a Biscuit he would be a Cookie, Hard and sometimes a bit tough to break  on the outside but take off the top and there is a sweet, soft, lickable centre! He has been Heart broken so has given himself rules ......but you know what they say about rules.... Then you have the Leading Lady Jill.......You Will Fall In Love With Jill, I did, she is wonderful you are routing for her the whole  way through, i shed a tear for her, was her cheerleader, and shouted Go Girl when., Well You know When! Jill is not a sniveller for no reason, she doesn't run or whinge for no reason, neither character does, it is all done for the story, nothing  is drawn out, everything is just right. Nothing in it which had me wanting to chuck the kindle at the wall, as just when i am normally at  the point when i think they are going to get half a book out of this now, i was like, well goodness is being sorted.....well done Lauren....this was like all the Rom-com's i enjoyed when i was younger with the 'boom box in the rain' moments and  'they don't make them like they used to do'.... encompassed into a book. I can see this on the screen. I can see the 'takeaway moment' in my head right now on the tv, Davis, all Sexy, Smouldering, Heartbroken, Deep in thought...... (You will get what I mean, when you read it) . Rom-com with an 18* rating on it ;-) seriously steamy!!!! my kindle steamed up reading  this.  A HOT Read! Lauren sure knows how to write some explosive scenes! With some emotional ones that got me right in the heart to!

I bought the boxed set Tangled Up In Love which included: Caught Up In Us Pretending He's Mine Trophy Husband Playing With Her Heart These can all be read as stand alone books but I recommend reading them in the above order. They are all wrapped up in each other, both character and timewise. In the boxed set, there are 648 pages (NOOK). All four books are about finding love and what it means to each different set of couples. There are also steamy love scenes in all the books, which is always good, right? Lauren Blakely's writing style is smooth and very believable. You can picture all the characters as if they were your neighbors or best friends. I highly recommend this series.

## This book was marvelous. I read it all in one night; I just couldn't put it down. The characters were well developed and each of them had their own issues to overcome. Both hero and heroine were very likeable and their chemistry was amazing. I loved the dirty talk. It was however frustrating that it took so long for them to finally get together. I know, I know, half the fun is the anticipation. There's plenty of that. I especially like that the POV went back and forth between hero and heroine. It's way more personal that way. I recommend highly and will definitely read again.

This was an amazing book. It is the first book worthy of my praise. The moments of pure, hot passion had me fanning myself and my nook. I felt like I was on a rollercoaster...this book exumes romance, passion, jealousy, love, and hungry sex that kept me captivated from start to finish. Far exeeded my expectations for something I seen posted on Facebook!

Less than 24 hrs ago I bought this book.. Let me just say I couldn't put it down!!! I have loved all of this author's books so far, and this may be the best so far! I didn't want the story to end. It was very well written and the characters were very real. I look forward to many more books from Lauren Blakely. My favorite thing about her novels is that they are all stand alone books but characters that you love from other books show up and just make the story better. I definitely recommend this her to all my friends.

A Review of Playing With Her Heart by Lauren Blakely The Director and the Actress - 5++++ stars If you've been reading Ms. Blakely's books as they come out, you will recognize several of the characters in this book. Jill happens to be the sister of Chris from Chris and McKenna's storyline. She is an actress with a past that she has done everything she can to keep hidden, even from family. We get hints of her pain and what she may have dealt with throughout the story. Davis is a Director who saw Jill in one production and just knew that she would be the perfect actress for the new play that he has coming up. However, the Powers-that-be had other plans, so Davis insisted that Jill be the understudy for the main female character, knowing that she would get to play the role at least a couple of times from the history of the temperamental lead. The chemistry between them and how much they fight to ignore it just blasts you in the face. There are some really heart wrenching parts that make you hurt for the characters, but there are some really happy ones as well. I loved seeing Kat and Bryan again, especially since Kat and Jill are still roommates until Kat and Bryan eventually get married. I really enjoy the way the characters intermingle from one story to another as it makes them seem more real. Great storyline and writing as usual! **Honest review voluntarily provided for purchased product.**
