In this beautifully written sequel to THE JUDGE'S DAUGHTER, Thomas draws readers into an intricately plotted tale of American life in a particular time and place. And like all the best stories it's full of twists and turns, surprises, humor and horror, action, and moments of pure prose delight. What at first seems a gentle evocation of life on a quiet American university campus picks up speed fast as the nation slides into the maelstrom of the 1960s...and as the Wheelock family plunges into its own whirlpool of madness, betrayal, and danger. Splendid.
