The Prophecy (An Estilorian Short Story) by Raine Thomas

Saraqael hadn’t intended to fall in love with Kate. His kind didn’t usually experience emotion, and they certainly weren’t supposed to become attached to humans.

When he discovers that Kate’s dying and there’s nothing he or her human doctors can do for her, Saraqael realizes how deep his feelings for her run. And he understands just how far he’s willing to go to save her.

About the Author

Raine Thomas is the author of the exciting and original series of YA fantasy/romance novels about the Estilorian plane. A member of Romance Writers of America, Raine has crafted stories for as long as she can remember. Carrying that passion with her, she earned her bachelor’s degree in English with a focus in Creative Writing from Georgia State University, then her master’s degree in Humanities from Central Michigan University.

Residing in Orlando, Florida, Raine is a hopeless romantic with a background in the fields of mental health and wedding planning…two areas that intersect far more than one would think. Her years working with children and adolescents with emotional and behavioral challenges inspired her to create young protagonists who overcome their own conflicts. When she isn’t writing or glued to e-mail or social networking sites, Raine can usually be found vacationing with her husband and daughter on one of Florida’s beautiful beaches or crossing the border to visit with her Canadian friends and relatives.

Wow, what a sweet short story! I would definitely recommend anyone who has read or plans to read the Daughters of Saraqael trilogy to read this. It's a nice bonus from the author. I really enjoyed the interactions between Quincy and Saraqael. Obviously, I also enjoyed all the love Saraqael clearly felt for Kate. I'm so happy to re-enter this world that Raine has painted so vividly!

I loved knowing more of the back story of how the girls came to be, what their parents were like, since they are talked about so often in the series, and yet, not actual involved characters. The added insight just gives more layers to the whole story in my humble opinion, though you would have to actually read the Daughters of Saraqael Trilogy to understand that..

I have to admit, this was not my favorite read.  I had a really hard time following the story, it didn't capture my attention, and though its a shorter read it took me quite a few days to finish it.  It was well written, but I just couldn't connect to the characters or the story.  I have to say I'm sorry, but I won't be recommending this book.
