About the Author

Snorri Sturluson (c. 1179-1241) was an Icelandic poet, historian, and lawspeaker of the Althing. Born to a wealthy and powerful family, Snorri inherited a significant amount of property and became known as a poet. In 1215 he was elected lawspeaker of the Althing, the Icelandic parliament, and office he held twice for a number of years. He journeyed to Norway twice, becoming a friend and jarl of king Hakon.
