Haunted by a painful past, Rebecca begins an interim position at a high school in a small town she knows nothing about, using the move as a way to put distance between her and an overprotecting and controlling mother. Immediately she is attracted to Marc, a thirty-three year-old English teacher, but his strangely reserved behavior leaves her confused and wondering if they will ever be more than friends as tension between them builds.
When allegations against Marc arise, the two find themselves the targets of an unknown stalker. Together, they are pulled into solving the mystery of the stalker's identity.
