About the Author

Jodi Ellen Malpas was born and raised in the Midlands town of Northampton, UK, where she lives with her family. Working for the family construction business full time and with the prospect of taking it over once her father retired, she tried to ignore the lingering idea of writing a novel until it became impossible. She finally found the time and courage to release her creative streak and in October 2012 self-published This Man as an ebook. She took a chance on a story with some intense characters, notably Mr. Jesse Ward, the Lord of the Manor, and sparked incredible reactions from women all over the world. Two months later, Jodi made the decision to give up her day job to concentrate on her new and very unexpected career in writing.

Actual Rating: 4.5 Stars It is no secret that I am a lover of all things Jodi Ellen Malpas, so when I found out she was publishing a new standalone book, my grabby hands came out something fierce. To say that I have loved each and every one of this phenomenal author’s books is not doing her words the immense amount of justice they each deserve. All six of her previous books, have given me completely consuming reading experiences, wrought with thought out emotion and dynamic characters that steal my heart again and again. Her books represent some of my all-time favorites, and the characters and stories she’s given me over the years will stay with me forever in some way, shape, or form. I went into The Protector knowing that this book would be a tad different than her others because it was a standalone rather than a series, but I knew that Jodi Ellen Malpas would weave together something I would feel every ounce of, something I would love unconditionally, and something I wouldn’t soon forget. After reading and experiencing every word of this book, all I can say is that my predictions for this book were completely on point because what she gave me within the pages of this book is why I LOVE romances, why I LOVE her book so fiercely, and why and I can’t get enough of what she creates through her all-feeling writing. The Protector was a story that completely took ahold of me from the very first pages, and had me encapsulated in it all with Jake and Camille and their romantic, emotional, and suspenseful story. While I went into this book not necessarily knowing what to expect, I found myself once again completely taken within a memorable story with wonderfully distinctive characters that found themselves seared to my heart in no time flat. Woven together with Jodi Ellen Malpas’s outstanding and thoughtfully crafted writing, The Protector came to be a story I lived, loved, and felt every word of. This is a story of past and pain, and more hurt than you can shake a stick at, but how when you finally see that light and hope for the first time in your life, it can bring you it all, as long as you let yourself grab onto it. From beginning to end, The Protector had me within its pages experiencing everything it had to offer, and I truly can’t say enough how much I enjoyed it. There really is nothing like a book by Jodi Ellen Malpas. The talent of her words truly know no bounds, and every time I read one of her books, I become completely entranced by everything she gives me with her characters. She makes every word, every emotion and feeling, and every moment of her books beyond real, beyond consuming, and beyond authentic, and that sets her books in a league of their own. She is one of my all-time favorite author’s, and reading this book reinforced that notion again and again. The Protector was a story of romance, suspense, and heart, and what happens when two people from two very different walks of life, find themselves of the same path feeling a world of spark and connection towards each other. It follows them through every gripping and emotional up and down and twist and turn as they try to figure it all out, and as they see what the light might bring them and their hearts, if they only reach out and take it with all that they have. What I got with Jake and Camille through their heart melting and pounding story was everything and more, and I loved every moment I got with them as they gave it all a go. You will too. Trust me on that.

3.75 stars-- THE PROTECTOR by Jodi Ellen Malpas is a stand alone, contemporary adult romantic, suspense story line focusing on former SAS (Special Forces) sniper Jake Sharp, and model/fashion designer Camille (Cami) Logan. Told from dual first person points of view (Cami and Jake) THE PROTECTOR focuses on Jake’s latest assignment-to ‘babysit’ a twenty five year old heiress. When new threats from an unknown source are directed at his only daughter Camille, billionaire British businessman Trevor Logan hires former SAS sniper and bodyguard Jake Sharp to protect his daughter from potential harm. What ensues is the building forbidden relationship between Cami and Jake, and the investigation into the threats against Cami who may have become collateral damage in her father’s personal and private war. Jake Sharp is a damaged soldier both physically and emotionally following a devastating loss of men in the Afghanistan war, and civilian life finds our hero a reluctant bodyguard for a woman he believes to be a spoiled, rich and narcissistic princess. His fears are not far from reality as our heroine is continuously on the run and pushing all of Jake’s over-protective, alpha male buttons. But Jake hides a secret that is destroying his life-PTSD and a past he refuses to acknowledge. Cami is a cover model and aspiring fashion designer; a woman who fell for the wrong man and paid the price in more ways than one. Cami believes her father has crossed a line with his need to protect his youngest child but our heroine is completely unaware of the threats against her life, and the fall –out of her father’s affairs. The relationship between Camille and Jake begins acrimoniously-Cami wants nothing to do with a live in bodyguard, and Jake has to fight his need for control as Cami is committed to continue her life as though nothing else mattered. As Jake, and his ‘keeper’ Lucinda begin to do a little investigation of their own, Jake knows that Trevor Logan is hiding the truth behind the threats against his daughter’s life, and Jake will be targeted when his relationship with Camille becomes personal. The $ex scenes are intimate, passionate and intense. THE PROTECTOR is a fated story line that follows many diverging paths with plenty of back story, and an ex-boyfriend who may or may not have some help with his need for revenge and desire to get what he wants. Jake is a man haunted by his past-a past that he knows must be faced before he can move on with his life. His secret, once revealed, will change our hardened bodyguard into a different man. Jodi Ellen Malpas’s THE PROTECTOR has moments of action, suspense, mystery and drama. The premise is intriguing; there is plenty of sexual tension between our leading couple; the characters are numerous, colorful and animated but many seem to be out of place within the story line context. The conflict resolution was a little rushed-solved too easily and rather quickly; Jake’s past comes full circle as he must face who and what he left behind.

4.5 Stars!! “I’ve never felt a connection so intense that I can physically feel it. It’s no distraction. It’s no means to an end. It’s tangible. It’s pulling at everyone of my muscles and stabbing at every inch of my naked skin. I’ve never felt so absorbed by a woman that she makes me want to sacrifice my soul in her honor. I’ve never felt this. Never. Many words are tying to wrestle their way into my twisted mind, but only one is making it through. Mine.” “I’m going nowhere. She is my fate.” “I can’t break her. She’s too strong, and when we connect, I feel that strength growing for reasons I can’t fathom.” When I first heard about The Protector, I didn’t really know what to expect. I just knew after reading the synopsis, that I had to read this book. The Protector is told from dual points of view and follows the story of Jake and Camille. I’m going to be honest with you, this book was little hard for me to get into in the beginning. I wasn’t really sure if I was going to like it or not, but after reading three or four chapters, I was hooked. I was desperate to know more about the handsome, cold bodyguard. I wanted to know what happened to him, and why he kept everyone away. I adored Camille. On the outside, she might seem like a spoiled, rich girl, but that is not who she is at all. When you get to know Camille, you find a strong independent woman, who owns up to her mistakes and wants to make a name for herself. She wants nothing to do with her father or his money. She just wants to make her own life. I loved that she was stronger than I gave her credit for. I really liked Jake and Camille together. They had an instant and intense connection. However, they didn’t immediately give into their feelings. They both tried to fight it, knowing that if they gave in, it could compromise Jake’s ability to do his job safely and correctly. Only, the pull that these two had could only be fought for so long. And when they do finally give in, nothing will be able to contain the sparks that fly. Jake does not disappoint. He is a 100% alpha male, just the type that I would want and expect from this author. Jake is the kind of guy that once he sets his sights on something, he is not afraid to go after it. He loves and protects those he cares about fiercely and is a total force to be reckoned with. There is no doubt that The Protector is a hot and sinful read. But, there is so much more to this book than just lots of sexy good times. There is mystery and suspense. There are secrets and lies. There is danger around every corner. I loved trying to put all the pieces of the puzzle together and try to figure out what was really going on. I love books that make me think and question things and I have to tell you, this book doesn’t disappoint. All the twists and turns had me questioning things, right until the very end. The Protector was a terrific read. I had a hard time putting this book down and couldn’t stop myself from just devouring all the words. From the characters to the story-line, you just couldn’t go wrong. This story will entertain you and captivate you. From suspenseful moments, to the oh so sweet, pull on my heart strings moments; The Protector has something for everyone. This story will frustrate you and in the next breath, you will be swooning and falling deeply in love. There is not much else to say, other than I really enjoyed Jake and Camille’s story. I definitely recommend checking this book out.

First thing. Jake was not Jessie or Miller so don't go into the book looking for them. Jake had their alpha male qualities and a troubled secret past, but add in a military background and the take-charge attitude soared off the charts. There was a lot of Jake since the book has dual POV's which was a departure from Jodi's other books. As a diehard JEM fan, I loved having more of the male perspective when normally it was in an epilogue. Secondly, Camille was a different type of female heroine. She was rich, pampered socialite, but strong, determined and very headstrong. She wanted to prove her own worth to a world that saw her as the spoiled party girl. As one can imagine, she was not thrilled to get Jake as a 24/7 bodyguard when her father received threats against her well-being. Her relationship with their father was already a battle ground and having a dark, handsome man with a no-nonsense attitude hovering in all aspects of her life did not help. Her father was a cut throat, ruthless business man with enemies everywhere so Camille needed Jake's protection whether she thought she did or not. Now for a hotness factor. Holy mother of God when Jake and Camille finally hooked up, I needed a fan or a cold shower! It was H-O-T!!! Smoking!!! Steaming!!! Lord have mercy!!! You get the picture. The story was fast paced. It threw me a bit because at 5% in there was a lot of background that normally I would have expected Jodi to feed slowly to the reader. I had to remind myself this was a stand-alone book, not a trilogy so the story had to move along at a good clip. That doesn't mean everything was laid out at the beginning. Jodi had several secrets up her sleeve toward the end that were really good. One I never saw coming! No spoilers here so get the book! However, I struggled through parts of the book. Not because it was a bad story or poorly written. Not at all! Jodi's work is always fantastic! It just "sounded" different than her previous books. There were several moments where I thought an editor got ahold of it and set the tone because it just didn't sound like her writing. I expected more flowing, romantic dialogue. Toward the end of the book I saw some of that, but by then I was already used to the tone of the book. Overall I enjoyed reading The Protector. Jodi always weaves a good romance with some mystery, drama and a feel good ending. The book did not disappoint in any of these areas. I highly recommend snapping up this book when it is available in September!

This story takes many twists and turns. There’s passion, suspense, humor and excitement in this riveting new read by Jodi Ellen Malpas. I was completely captivated by THE PROTECTOR. Jake is an amazing character; strong and fiercely protective, yet deeply troubled. He’s fighting some major demons and to keep those demons at bay, he immerses himself in alcohol, women and work. The deadlier the assignment, the better. At the beginning of the story, Jake is in a really bad place and is relieved when his partner delivers his next assignment: protecting an entitled “princess” figure. Well, he’s almost relieved. Jake has no patience for selfish, privileged party girls. But as his assignment goes on, Jake finds out that Camille is none of these things. It’s a blessing and a curse. Camille Logan is a strong, self-sufficient woman. She knows her dad is a very rich and powerful man, but she wants to be successful on her own. Independence is very important to her. Unfortunately, her father refuses to let Camille out from under his oppressive thumb. He wants to protect her but his idea of “protection” is overbearing and controlling. Especially when he hires Camille a bodyguard. What nerve! Now Camille is saddled with an unbelievably gorgeous pain in the butt, cramping her style and invading her life. She’s already got one overprotective father; she doesn’t need two! But Jake is anything but fatherly. As Jake and Camille spend more time together, lines are blurred between professional and passion and the threats on Camille’s life become a very real thing. And Camille’s father seems to be hiding something. All is not what it seems and the real threat to Camille’s life may not be as dangerous as the threat of losing her heart to Jake. This is my first read by the author and I really enjoyed it. Jake is a very dangerous and very sexy man. In the beginning I didn’t think much of him because he is a pretty big a**hole, but he slowly won me over. I loved Camille. She’s strong, independent and loyal. I admired her so much. I thought She and Jake paired well together. The plot was what kept me glued to the pages. There’s suspense and some angst and a lot of surprises. I loved how three-dimensional the characters were and how well they supported each other and the storyline. THE PROTECTOR is a solid read from an obviously talented author and I would definitely recommend it to readers. ***I want to thank the publisher for gifting me an early copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
