Very fast, action packed Tracy Tappan does a grand slam in this second book of the “Community Series”. This is a very fast, action packed, exciting book dealing with the Varcolac, who some like to call vampires and the extinct race of human Dragon females, as well as two groups of bad guys also trying to get these women for breeding. Who wouldn’t want to read a book with a galore of hot, sexy, muscled good guys fighting scary bad guys over beautiful women? What is really the best part of this book is how the author interweaves numerous story lines and some flashbacks at the same time to keep you on the edge of your seat even at the cliffhanger ending. The main focus on this book is that hot and sexy Dev from book one and Marissa a human Dragon he rescued from the bad guys. Between past and present family issues these two work through multiple obstacles hoping to forge a relationship based on love. As secondary characters I really connected with the love and struggle between Alex and Luvera, Dev’s sister, and bad boy Shon that I keep feeling isn’t as bad as he keeps leading on. This is a seriously great read that I recommend for people who are ready up their “same old same old” vampire book to the wow this is a new and fresh one

She's done it again. This book was even better than the first. I didn't think that would be possible. So many twists and turns. It flowed well and I never felt confused by any if it. Dev is one hot male. A mated male but still hot. Marissa is his world. I'm starting the third one now. I won't say anymore because I don't want to give anything away. I'll end this with two words. READ IT!

Things aren't all they seem, the bloodline wars are intensifying, and more Dragons are being introduced to the community. Action packed and lust filled. Love this series!

Overall Rating:  4 Rockin Stars Stumbling upon The Purest of the Breed, the Community Series book two by Tracy Tappan was an educational learning process for those of us not savvy about the various pop cultures used by the author to develop this unique one of a kind book.  It is an intricately woven tale filled with Vampire myths, the never ending battling for dominance and survival between the Demon, Fae and Vampire Races.  This story focuses on Dev and Marissa's happily ever after and the struggle to get there. Marissa is kidnapped from her bed in the middle of the night.  She is terrified of what lies ahead for her, because the brutes that have her are horrendous with a capital "H".  She finds herself with two other women in an abandoned warehouse, hoping upon hope that someone will come to their aide and rescue them.  Dev is an Elite Pureblood Vampire that chose to be a warrior with his family’s permission.  He is searching for the one woman that will complete him, his mate. While on a rescue mission, he inhales the sweet scent of Marissa, his mate.  He knows that he will protect, care for her and keep her safe always.  This story was mind-blowing with its numerous subplots that were done really well.  You had several characters battling various dramas while the main plot continued to build in its intensity.  The characters were well developed and you were able to sense their insanity, hopelessness, heartache and more.  The story is fast-paced and you dread laying the book down until it is finished.

Sensitive readers should be warned about a graphic rape scene in the first few chapters. Now on to the positive... Dev and Marissa fit together like two pieces of a puzzle! They both went through some shattering experiences and I honestly don't know what they would have done without each other to lean on. They had a strong connection to begin with and I loved seeing how it developed over time. Dev desperately wanted Marissa as his mate but she had her own plans for her life and she wasn't ready to give them up... even for him. Yes, it caused some angst between them but it was nothing they couldn't solve. It's no secret that I adore Toni and Kimberly and it was wonderful to see them both in their element. Thank God for strong females! The flashbacks to the 1800's added so much to the story as well. We get the heart-breaking backstory behind the marriage of Dev's parents and the Vârcolac being forced to flee their home country. I could see that there was more to Pettrila than the toxic shrew and sure enough, I couldn't blame her for being the way she was. As far as the development of the overall story... we learn something about a certain detective and Raymond's daughter Pandra is becoming an intriguing character. I'd love to see more of her in the next book.

Marissa is from a rare bloodline, one that makes her one of the few who can have children with vampires. When she's kidnapped and then saved by Dev she's given a chance at half a million dollars if she works underground for a year. What she doesn't know is that it's a ploy in which they hope she falls in love with one of the men down there and stays... forever. Dev knows from the moment he falls on Marissa that she's his mate, but with their new ways of doing things he can't tell her what he really is right away. As their feelings grow secrets kept could ruin them before they get a chance at forever after. Marissa has had a crap life when it comes to those closest to her. She's never fit in and didn't know why. Dev is a total sweetie wrapped up in one very hot warrior package. He hates the typical vampire stories and tries his hardest to be different from the stories. These two have their share of problems, but I loved seeing the back and forth between them and seeing how they reacted to new situations. The storyline is interesting and keeps you glued to the pages. Don't believe me? I stayed up till 1:30 in the morning to finish it because I couldn't put it down!

Action packed from start to finish! I was gripped within the first few pages and although I had not read the first book within the series it was easy enough to catch onto what was going on within the plot; who was who and the history between the The Topside Om R¿u , Underground Om R¿u  and the main breed of “Vampire” the Vârcolac. It begins with Marissa Bonaventure being ripped from her bed in the middle of the night by a group of large scary men with distinctive flame tattoos on their faces. Murk & Teer upon snatching her proceed to force her into the trunk of their car which brings back unwanted memories of an experience she had with her sister when she was drowning and she stood there with pure dislike on her face and did not move a muscle to  help her. At that point in her life she had never felt so helpless. Her sister and her have had a difficult past to put it mildly with Marissa giving up everything in her life to look after her mother when she became ill. She never really had a start to begin with, having scoliosis as a child she suffered from terrible spinal problems which she eventually had fixed via surgery but the “birth mark” she sported also on her lower back she could do nothing about. Natalie began  campaign to take everything she could from Marissa, whether it be sleeping with her boyfriends right through to the biggest deceit of all – taking away her dreams. Marissa dreamed of being one of the Worlds Top Leading Chefs, but quit collage to look after her mother, where Natalie carried on and went off to France to a prestigious school to learn the art of culinary cooking, only to come back years later taking the job she had applied for recently. That was the final straw! But all this was a flash in her mind as she was shoved in that trunk, trying to fight back, a ball gag is placed in her mouth, her hands and feet tied up and driven off to an exchange. At the Warehouse she discovers she is not alone, there are two other girls. One is huddled in a corner and another is bent over a table being abused. A new type of sheer fear lances it’s way through Marissa.  Upon meeting the new men who have come to the exchange to take them she notices they are very similar, they smell awful and they too have tattoos but instead of flames they have what looks like interlocking teeth. Dev Nichita is a Vârcolac Purebred or what we would consider a Vampire, with a body you could worship all day and night long for that matter, silver eyes and a sexy gold hoop in his ear. I didn’t even know any more information about him at this point other than he wanted to take a team up to the surface form their cave compound called ¿¿rân¿ , to save 4 women he had heard (through discovered communication between the Topside Om R¿u  & the Underground Om R¿u ) had been taken and were going to be used in an exchange – Just this information alone and his description had me weak at the knees, both hot and passionate about caring! Now that’s a heady combination!   The Vârcolac,  they are of the night, they drink blood, they are sexy as hell, stacked, know how to kick ass, fly and are the nicest people you could know. A far cry from those that are either Topside or Underground Om R¿u because they are evil style vampire, the type nightmares are borne of, half demon they commit heinous crimes, do not believe in treating anyone with any type of care in any way, everything is violence based or styled – your worst fears come to life and they are vampires on top of that! Dev manages to convince the Varcolac council to allow him to go topside and attempt a rescue. The main reason to rescue these women and the reason they were taken in the first place is because they have a unique signature in their blood (Peak 8). The women are Dragon women – All blonde, slim and share a similar dragon scale “birthmark” on them. It is with only them these groups can Mate Bond with to continue their races with because Purebred Vârcolac mates had been non producing in the child department for many years now and would face extinction without the introduction of these Dragon Females. Saving this 4 is important to the Vârcolac race as a whole. Swooping in to save the day Dev and his team ( Thomal, Gabor &  Sedge) kick arse against the Om Rau snatching 3 of the women from them (the fourth had not been captured in the first instance), Marissa, Hadley &  Kendra. When Marissa first sets eyes on Marissa she refers to him as Bat Man, her Bat Man as he came straight from the shadows, flying down to rescue her and the other 2 women with the help of his team. Boths side sustain injuries both physical direct contact and via being shot which confuses her on every level because no matter what is done to them they just don’t seem to be able to be killed! Nothing fazes them. When they arrive in ¿¿rân¿ , the women are taken under Dr Toni Parthen’s (Toni has Dragon’s blood too but is of the Royal Fey – Book 1 in this Series is about her), wing and go straight into the glorious mansion. They are taken care of and given time to get over their shock, beginning the process of sorting through what has happened to them. They are given a different kind of explanation as to what is going on around them and to why they are kidnapped, this way they do not get scared and refuse to stay and get to know the Vârcolac males to whom they hope will fall for one before the “Big Reveal” where they will be told they are in fact an ancient race of Vampires known as Vârcolac . Each woman meets with Kimberly, the communities lawyer who spends her time split between the outside world and the ¿¿rân¿ city within the cave, much to her husbands dismay but he can not deny her anything as he loves her so much and it is a massive help to have a lawyer on hand, so it works well for everyone. Meeting with Kimberly the girls are offered a half a million dollar contract to stay for a year within the community, with the community providing them with anything they need – in Marissa’s case they are willing to build her her own restaurant allowing her to “cut her teeth” in the industry, which is an opportunity she could not miss out on given the fact of her sister stealing everything from her up in the “real world”.  With this offer to stay Marissa jumps at the chance, so does Hadley as they appeal to her needs but Kendra declines, her rape at the hands of the Om R¿u  too much for her, she just wants to go home regardless the fact she is told that her safety is on the line. Since the moment Dev and Marissa met that fateful night there was a spark between the two, and with Vârcolac males only mating for life, they are  careful around women. Marissa mesmerises him, he can smell her scent anywhere and as the two begin dating and grow closer, her need for physical touch and interaction becomes clear, the only hick up is that without the mate bond, Vârcolac males and females feel extreme pain if they become aroused too much. In effect no blood equals no wood……….. When the final reveal comes and  the women are told the truth about ¿¿rân¿, that the men they have been dating & the majority of the people around them are Vampires, and they they themselves are part of an ancient race of Dragon blood women who are the only ones who can breed with the Vârcolac (and Om R¿u which is why they were targeted and without staying in effect would leave them hunted by the Om R¿u for the rest of their lives), they are the future saviours of their race – Will they be able to see past what they perceive as monsters? What does this mean for Marissa and Dev? I can truly say this book was exciting, from page to page you were whipped into a story that had you headed down the rabbit hole to a world that not only was filled with danger but was also filled with a sense of love, friendship and family. There is a perfect combination of past and present to explain each individual situation – Lies, secrets, manipulation, truth, justice, underhandedness, determination and devastation are just a small elements of this novel. It is packed to the pages with every emotion possible, a fully mind blowing thrill ride that will have you on your toes, and have you turning the pages with abandon! A true must read, in fact I am headed off now to read Book 1 in the series and cannot wait for Book 3!  5***** are not enough!

Actually 4 1/2 stars. All Marissa Bonaventure ever wanted was to be a great chef and own her own restaurant in San Diego, California. But her life is changed when demons capture her and two other human women to give to some fey. Dev and his fellow vampires save them and bring them down to Tarana. All three women are Dragon humans, able to mate with the vampires and get pregnant, something the Varcolacs need to keep their race from extinction. Trouble is, those demons still want the women and to destroy the vampires too. You can read this second book in the Community Book series without reading the first one. The flashbacks to 1877 Romania and Dev’s mother, Pettrila, was super and made me see a different woman than the one in modern time who seem to hate both of her children, Dev and T. There are white as snow people (human or vampire) in this book. Everyone has issues and that makes them more sympathetic, or more real. The sex is hot, it sometimes borders on what people might term as BSDM, rough and hard, so be forewarned for those not into that. The vamps here are not the Twilight kind—thank goodness. They can’t go into the daylight and no, they don’t sparkle, they die. And yet, they are not undead, but living beings, just long living. From beginning to end, you will be drawn into the underground world of Tarana and the lives of the Varcolacs, Dragon hybrids and Dragon humans. If you enjoy paranormal romance with vampires, this book is a must read for your library.

(I received this book for free as part of Goodreads First Reads giveaways). (This review may contain spoilers). Having read the first book in this series, I was pretty happy I already had the second book… and I had a much better feeling while I was reading this book. I liked the women, but there were times I got a bit confused with them. The ones who weren’t the main characters seemed almost grouped together into one entity and there were a few who weren’t actually named. It was nice to see other characters as well in this book. I really liked Alex’s relationship and I liked the fact that he was a fairly interesting character and it was nice to see that the author spent quite a bit of time on his subplot. I really find it unique that the vampire-race can’t actually get physical with anyone until after they’re bound. It’s an interesting and unique take on it and I felt it kept the relationships real, with just enough sexual tension to indicate that, yes, these two characters are strongly attracted to each other. I would like to know how the Dragons are formed. If it’s a genetic thing, I would have thought that at least some of the Dragons would be physically related to each other. I really didn’t like the police officer in this book. I didn’t like him in the previous one, either, but he was particularly annoying in this one. There were a couple of the bad guys that I found fairly intriguing, even though I really dislike them. Not their leader, though – he’s a complete jerk and I really dislike him. I can’t feel any sympathy towards him… or really understand the reasons behind what he’s trying to do. There were a few emotional scenes in this book and some things that really made me angry. I ran a gauntlet of emotions through this book and that’s a sign of a book that really draws me in and keeps me hooked all through reading it. I definitely intend to read book three at some point in the future. I also have a short story that’s set in the world as well. If you’d like a more unique take on the vampire paranormal romances… this series is it.

I can't wait for the next book!!! This is the second book in the series, and the way this one ended, there will definitely be a third (HOORAY!!!) Tracy's books are kind of like a 2-for-1 deal: she doesn't just introduce a supporting character and then never mention it again. She gives the reader an in-depth look at the supporting character(s), almost like a novella inside of the novel. This really had me invested in the collective characters and eager to read more about them, hopefully in subsequent books. She also involved the main characters from book 1 in book 2 and even continued their story. It was like catching up with old friends, and I was SO happy! I absolutely LOVED everything that transpired between Marissa and Dev, especially their first meeting (it was pretty funny. I think you'll laugh when you read it!). His unwavering devotion to her is so endearing, and the dialogue between them truly made me FEEL.  Even though Dev is a big, tough warrior, life seems to throw him a few unexpected curve balls that shatters his world around him. I really felt for him, and if Marissa didn't comfort him, I would have jumped into that book and done it myself! Similarly, Marissa is forced to deal with some unfortunate issues, which makes them a perfect couple.  Not many love scenes in the book, but it really didn't need them. The actual LOVE between the characters was engaging enough to read.  The story kept developing twists that kept me guessing until the end. Heck, even the last sentence of the book has me guessing about the NEXT book! I love this series because all of the males are to-the-death devoted to their mates. Once he knows who she is, he never wavers in his commitment: he doesn't ever WANT to. I love reading stories like that; where he finds his "one and only" and never lets anything come between them.  This series definitely keeps getting better. I am looking forward to at least one more in the series, but I'm also very interested in reading Tracy's other upcoming books in other romance-genres, not just paranormal!

I am half way through this book and am about to fall asleep
