The Pursuit of God by A.W. Tozer

During a train trip from Chicago in the late 1940s, A.W. Tozer began to work on The Pursuit of God. He wrote all night long, the words coming to him as fast as he could put them down. By the next morning, when the train pulled into McAllen, Texas, the rough draft was done.

Although written in such a remarkably short period of time, the depth, clarity and completeness of A.W. Tozer's message has made The Pursuit of God an enduring favorite-over a million copies are now in print in 20 languages.

The complete text of this classic has been divided into 31 daily meditations. Quotations from some of Tozer's more than 40 works and from other contemporary and classic authors enhance the text. Prepare yourself for a deeply meaningful and enjoyable experience.

The title, "Pursuit of God", is misleading. It is actually God who pursues us while we search for Him! This book shares the fact that God is relational. He made us relational beings. God wants a relationship with us, but there are so many distractions and white noises around us that we must pursue Him by getting rid of the noises. Then we can hear Him and personally know Him. This book does not require you to turn your brain off. Rather it encourages you to use your intellect and your heart and explore how to enter into a relationship with God. This book is a must read for the sincere and guileless person.

Tozer is what I call a "wordsmith", that whether by divine inspiration or pure talent, he can take the deepest theological consideration and "unpack" it to a reasonably simple conclusion. If he has written it, I want to read it again and again!

Whatever you are doing, STOP and get hold of a copy of this book as read it. Seriously , I couldn't break away. Every word was on point, I think I shook my head in agreement to what was reading during the whole book. My heart was touched and my spirit renewed. God Bless all who are touched as I have been.

This was my introduction to the works of Tozer, and it was definitely an experience. It’s an experience I believe every person who calls himself a Christian should have. Tozer holds the mirror up and challenges the beliefs you cling to so tightly, and shows how you can pursue God. What’s amazing is that, though written more than half a century ago, his words hold true in regard to the modern church and modern believers. It’s a call back to what Christianity truly is. It’s a call to see God as He really is.

The Pursuit of God by Mister Tozer was read by this reviewer in a time when he needed encouragement in the things of God and in seeking the very face of the Triune God of Holy Scripture. I found it a delight to listen to in the car while partaking in youth ministry in the summer of 2016. How blessed I was by every good gift coming down from The Father and being able to increase in the knowledge of the perfect Gift, His Son, through texts like this, or Mister Andrew Murray’s Humility and Absolute Surrender. Prayerfully line those two texts up before this one and watch God work, not neglecting to firmly stay in His Word. That is The Priority. I must also commend the reader who surrenders what He reads to The Lord Himself, and I find it necessary to encourage him to keep doing this. I recommend this work for all truly born-again Christians, who have repent(ed) and believe(d) The Gospel, and even the seeker of God, Who says, “"Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else” (Isaiah 45:22); however, I also must recommend prayer and wise counsel from those whom God gives the (new) disciple, because “without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers they succeed” (Proverbs 15:22). Ask and receive, dear reader, for The Lord Jesus Himself says, “So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you” (Luke 9:9). Ask the Lord; ask fellow Believers; ask! This book is a great read or a great listen for a born-again Believer to seek intimacy with the LORD who saved them so that they might enjoy a restored communion and fellowship with Him in His love, by His grace not suffering the endured wrath deserved, now, in this life, “Heaven on Earth” since the Kingdom of God is at hand! (If you are not a born-again Believer; one who knows the Lord and the Lord knows him or her, repent and believe the gospel before going any further! Turn to Jesus Christ! On behalf of Him, I say, “enter through the narrow gate”!) “Repent and believe in the gospel.” I hope and pray this review to be a word spoken in due season (Proverbs 15:23) for the believer who is actively trusting in Christ, His finished work, and the promises of God in His Word, or for the seeker of God, seeking Him by His Word.
