I began reading The Realm Between Heaven and Hell and immediately related with Dawn. In an abusive relationship, I felt empathy for her character, but also wondered why she would stick around to be abused. The beginning of the story was a little slow, but necessary to understand what she is going through and why she reacts the way she does throughout the story. When Dawn finds herself in the realm between heaven and hell I was intrigued, but had to pay close attention to what was happening. Once in the other realm her story moved along at a fast pace. There were a lot of people introduced fairly quickly with lots of action. JS Turner ingeniously introduced mystical creatures and put a new spin on the idea of life after death. She created a thrilling twist to the beginning of time. I enjoyed the depth of her characters, how she describes the realms and the actions. I would like to know more about Kale and I hope there is going to be a follow up to this story since it kind of leaves you hanging with what happens to Dawn.
