Overview

Reiki, which means universal life energy in Japanese, is an easy-to-learn energy healing technique. There's no system per se and no method of diagnosis: Just have hands and heal. Some new age composers, such as Deuter, are Reiki practitioners (or Reiki masters, who can initiate others into the energy), and have written music to accompany treatment sessions. New age pioneer Aeoliah has also been involved with Reiki for two decades, and on this album he offers his own music to accompany a session. First, however, seem to come five tracks by Fairy Ring composer Mike Rowland, whose synthesized orchestral voices are recognizable even though the album doesn't explicitly credit the division of music between the two artists. His sweet compositions are just beyond rhythmic grasp, just shy of completing a musical phrase. Whether you relax into it or struggle to complete the music in your mind is probably a matter of taste. The familiar sound of Aeoliah's music arrives at track six, "Twin Flames Rising." Aeoliah does not grasp onto a definite beat either, but his music embraces the slow, relaxed rise and fall of breath. His strings are shimmering and ethereal, as angel voices surround you with a comforting presence. A lone piano echoes gentle melodies, while a flute leads the spirit to other dimensions and spaces. There is no official music for Reiki, but to me (as a Reiki practitioner), Aeoliah's music sounds like the energy of Reiki feels: full of effervescent and loving possibilities.

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - MacKenzie Wilson
New age inspirationalist and spiritualist Aeoliah gets in touch with his internal passions on his 15th release entitled The Reiki Effect. Once again, he blends his moving piano talent and quick electronic beats with soothing classical arrangements to compose a surreal musical experience. The Reiki Effect also combines the work of fellow new age pianist, Mike Rowland. He and Aeoliah modify new age experimentalism for a neo-classical masterpiece.
