Overview

Four women, four very different personalities, neighbors on Lily Court Lane, come together over weekly mah jongg games and share the joys and struggles that come with their search for love.

Maryann, a new bride, married in a dazzling, romantic ceremony on New Year's Eve, dares to believe her new love will never repeat the violence of her first marriage. Sarah, a breast cancer survivor, fears no man could look past the scars to see her inner beauty. Dallas, betrayed by her newly "out" husband, is afraid to accept a new love. And Carolee, a single mother, fears she may have lost her adopted daughter's love when she decides to search for her birth mother. A young couple finds love while searching for a Holocaust survivor, owner of a painting stolen in World War II.

The Reluctant Brides of Lily Court Lane takes us through a yearlong journey of discovery, determination, and rebirth in which four women will face their greatest fears overcoming reluctance to accept love when it comes their way. An irresistible story of love in its many forms with more than a dash of good humor and an added element of mystery.

About the Author

Susan Chan was a school guidance counselor in New York City. Carol Polakoff was a teacher and worked in high-fashion retail sales. The two met during a mah jongg game after they moved to San Diego, where they both currently live with their husbands. Inspired to write their own novel after a book club discussion, this is the first book for each of them.
