You don't choose when.

You don't choose where.

And you don't get to choose who you fall in love with.

The minute he opened his sexy mouth, Holliday Hughes should have known Jack Dalton was trouble. His smooth pickup lines, broad shoulders, and ridiculously handsome face charmed her right out of her clothes. She gave into her desires, the instant attraction blinding her to the obvious.

One night. That was all it took for Holliday's world to be flipped on its axis. Jack Dalton was cocky. Smug. Volatile. Demanding. He ignited something deep inside her like no other, but there was something more to this brooding bad boy. There was a dark side to him she couldn't help but be drawn to.

Torn between what she knew about him and a mysterious side he tried to hide, could she walk away or was he simply too hard to resist?

This book is not the rock star romance you are used to read. It's a unique book! All the emotions surface while you are reading it! Angst, happiness, joy, sadness, passion, love! It's amazing how S.L.Scott can make you feel it all with just a single book! The characters are strong and it's impossible not to fall in love for them! It's a must read book!!!!

A chance meeting on a get-away business vacation has Holliday Hughes and Jack Dalton learning that sometimes passion is more important than details. But there is one thing about details, some of them contain very important secrets. How does one share these details/secrets without losing it all? S.L. Scott has a knack for making love real i.e. hard and difficult. But that’s life! It’s confusing, disappointing, disasterous, but in the end worth it! You can’t turn down a love with this amount of passion. From page to page I found myself wondering what would be thrown at this couple next and how they would handle it. Did I ever believe that wouldn’t make it? Well maybe but will I tell you the end? Never. A true page turner full of reality and love and lust, S.L. Scott has a winner with this new stand-alone, The Resistance!

I loved this book!! If you all know me or read my reviews, you know I don't read m/f very often. S.L. is one of the few that can get me to do it. If you read this book, you'll know why.  Jack Dalton is as sexy as they come! I've never been one for one night stands (personally of course) but let me just tell you, if Jack Dolton showed up, I would! I would do anything and everything he wanted.. Just like Holiday did! LOL Little did she know he had a big secret! Many would want him just for that, but she wanted him in-spite of it. She loves him in-spite himself. As the bio says, he's volatile and demanding and I would add possessive. Call me twisted, but I loved him for it all! LOL There's a cast of characters, some important to the story, some not so much but all interesting and all adding to the story.  This book has everything, sex, love, hot steamy sex, suspense, sex, drama, sex (did I say that already?) It made me swoon, laugh, cry sweetly, cry sadly and fan myself often! What more could you ask for??? A sequel that's what! LOL :P Lisa FFC

A different kind of romance/rocker story with a whole lot of real life thrown in. The writing of this story surpassed any expectations that I may have had. Every time I thought I knew which way the story was headed, there was a blind curve and I was left scratching my head and being impressed that the author was able to do that to me. Jack Dalton/Johnny Outlaw is a complex character who had everything, lost everything, became famous, indulged, found himself, and loses everything again. Holliday Hughes is a small business owner working on expanding her brand attending a conference in Vegas when she meets Jack Dalton. She doesn't recognize him as the rock star that he is. Their banter is fun and thought provoking throughout the book. Their attraction is obvious. Their love grows over a short period of time and holds true despite the obstacles thrown their way. This really is a love story, but we get to witness all of the bumps and bruises along the way. There's not a lot of sugar coated bliss in this book which makes it a refreshing read in a time where the cookie cutters are getting dull. Most impressively is that the secondary characters are just as well developed and intriguing as the primary ones. If you're on the fence - I say jump it and click to read this book!

~Reviewed by FRANCESCA & posted at Under the Covers Book Blog I’m a sucker for a rock star book.  Especially when it comes with an angsty lead singer.  THE RESISTANCE started off really captivating my attention.  Jack Dalton is the lead singer of THE RESISTANCE.  He happens to be in Vegas and meets Holliday Hughes at a corporate event.  She doesn’t know who he is but they are immediately attracted to each other.  And as sparks fly they decide to have a one night stand.  Their chemistry pushes them to want more and turn it into a weekend fling, until she realizes who he is. I was really loving this story until th urealistic fact that Holliday is a huge fan of Jack’s band didn’t know who he was.  I mean, I do know what at least the lead singer looks like if I’m such a fan of a band.  But putting that aside… There are several things that stand out and that I liked.  Holliday is a fun, fearless, independent woman.  Always love a lead character that is not going to get bulldozed by a famous boyfriend.  I love that she has a full life without him and that she’s not willing to put all that on hold just to be his groupie.  The fact she’s fun and fresh plays well with Jack’s fun side.  Their banter is entertaining, while their sexual chemistry is there What I wasn’t a fan of?  How much of an ass Jack could turn into from unwarranted and silly jealousy!  It really made me consider the fact that maybe Holliday should end up with her sexy neighbor instead of him because he was acting so douchy.  And wanting your heroine to end up with a different guy is never a good thing. Taking the good with the bad, this a fast and enjoyable read for me by a new author.

Full of emotion and character. I loved Dalton and Holliday's story. I wish it had gone on a little bit further... what happens after that? Kids? What happened with Rochelle? I'm hoping there will be more someday. I'd love to see how Danny ends up! I loved that both main characters had their own things going on. They were both successful people on their own. I loved that Holli stood up for herself when needed. Well written story.

If you love Rock Star romances, you will enjoy this book. Unfortunately, I just wasn’t able to connect to the story or the two main characters. Even though I wasn’t able to connect to the two main characters, it was still an enjoyable read.

This was an amazing story to read.  The characters were smart, sarcastic, funny and interesting to read.  I cried, laughed and cheered.  Buying the next in the series now. Rock stars are hot, Jack Dalton is my new favorite book boyfriend.  Hubba!

"Block the static and focus on the truth.~Dalton" ¿¿¿¿½ rocking stars! Four things really stood out for me:  1) The settings – Vegas, Los Angeles and Paris. I lived in 2 of those cities (Paris & LA) and visited the other (Vegas) recently. So it was cool to recognize some of the landmarks.  2) The banter between Holli and Dalton was fun and very entertaining.  3) I liked how they dove right into things. That is hard to make work and Author SL Scott pulled this off well.  4) The Johnny Outlaw quoted observations as chapter introductions were really freaking cool. My favorite scene was in Ch. 17. I alternated between my audiobook and Kindle e-book, and I found that to be a cool way to instantly reread.   Up next for me by this author is The Redemption which I own in paperback.

The Resistance by S. L. Scott I read “The Redemption” by accident before this story and although both can be read separately I will suggest reading this one first as the character lines blend a little better by doing so. Yes, I agree with the author that “the destination of this story was well worth the journey“. Jack Dalton/Johnny Outlaw is a complex character who has once lost his dream only to discover another wherein he has became famous, he has indulged himself, found himself, and loses himself again upon the death of his best friend. He is sexy and will make you swoon but seriously piss you off sometimes and then make you fall in love with him all over again. Holliday Hughes an independent and successful business woman, intelligent, beautiful and sexy in her own right. She has also had bad experiences in her life with men. But she is strong and she does not have the insecurities most women characters in love stories seem to have. When something upsets her she will not let it keep her down for long. She also stands up for herself when needed. The story is both sexy and romantic. Jack and Holliday’s attraction is instant and their chemistry explodes all over the place. The Resistance is a book about finding one’s way in life, learning how to cope with the past, finding a way to negotiate the present, and building a future on love and trust.

My review: I got a sneak peek in Skip to the Good Part anthology, where a short teaser from The Resistance was published and I bought The Resistance right after that. The teaser was so promising, so I simply had to have the book! Boy, did I love it! The Resistance is an intense, fun and well-written book! I loved the characters and the whole story-line and the dialogue in the book adorable! Holliday Hughes is a successful woman who has invented an Internet meme which went viral. She is visiting Las Vegas for a meeting and after a boring event she is headed to a bar, where a gorgeous guy is asking her for her ID when she is buying a drink. There is an immediate attraction between them and Holliday decides to go for a one-night stand with the sexy stranger whom she thinks is a security guard in the hotel. Next night in Vegas she finds out shocking truth about the guy she met. Jack Dalton is a lead singer of a world famous rock band The Resistance and he is better known as Johnny Outlaw. Jack Dalton stole a piece of Holli's heart, but she is not sure she can like Johnny Outlaw. And this is how their story starts. What I loved about the book? The characters were extraordinary well-written. I loved that Holliday was an independent and successful woman who put her foot down when needed. I liked that she didn't have insecurities and she wasn't heavily influenced by the fact, that her boyfriend was a rock star. She was down to earth and at the same time had a great sense of humor. She was there for Dalton when he needed her most, but then again, she knew what her limits were. I loved that! I also loved Dalton. What wasn't there to love about him?! He wasn't only a good looking star, but also had his heart at the right place. I was very happy for him when he faced his demons. I also loved Rochelle and Cory and my heart broke for Rochelle and I am so happy that the next book is about Rochelle. The dialogue was funny and right out awesome! I giggled a lot. At the same time, the author also gave quite a lot of intensity and anxiety. The relationship between Dalton and Holli was hot, intense and very sexy! I also loved the plot and the story development. It includes some serious surprises to me and I love that about a good story! A great read!

This book is absolutely amazing. It's hot and steamy, sexy and romantic. It's impossible not to fall in love with Jack Dalton, and I was instantly sucked in to Jack and Holliday's relationship. The fact that you are able to get inside both of their heads makes this book that much better! I really felt the way they were feeling while reading. I could not put this book down! I was reading it while at work, brushing my teeth, fixing my hair and feeding my child. I had to know what happened next. I did not want it to end, and when it did, it left me with a complete book hangover. I would and have recommended this book to everyone I know who loves to read!

This was the first book that I had the pleasure of reading from S.L. Scott and at the end of the day I have to say that The Resistance won me over. If you are looking for a book that has Romance, Sex, Humor, Sweetness, Secrets and something Kicky and yes I said "Kicky" not kinky then this is diffently the book that you will one to read and not put down. So when I started this book I was given a copy of the book from the author to do an honest review. Honestly this is a really really good book! I had a hard time putting the book down even though I was dam tired I tried to say to myself "ok one more chapter and that's it" yeah didn't work like that. Without getting too much into the storyline because I don't do spoilers in my reviews and I would hate for you not to read this book I will say that it's about two people who meet, Holiday Hughes who is a successful business women who is in Vegas for a work related vist. There in the bar she meets rock star Jack Dalton.  Jack isn't your typical rock star and with that lets just say that lightning strikes and thank you mam! After releasing that this could be more than a one night stand both have to figure out how this is going to work out for them. With both having issues and secrets that they keep from each and others trying to come between them it is a rollercoaster of a ride. So get yourself comfy, have a glass of wine ready and get ready to go! Get the book and read it.

He gave her a line, and she quite fell for it. Jack Dalton was trouble, Holliday Hughes knew it the moment she laid eyes on him. He was sinfully sexy, mysterious and charming. The attraction was almost instant, and the chemistry was exploding all over the place. It was supposed to be one night only, and everything would just have to remain in Vegas, but Jack thought otherwise. Her world turned a sudden 180, which left her off-balance for the onslaught of this man into her life. He was a force to be reckon with – he can be demanding, sweet, charming, vulnerable, and volatile. He kept on surprising me each time I turned the pages. I would hate him, then I would love him again. I would swoon for him, then I would think he didn’t deserve any of Holliday’s time. But he would make grand gestures that would be so sweet, you can’t help but forgive him. Question is, until when?  This girl is a self-made person. She started from scratch, and her work suddenly became a sensation. She didn’t need a man to back her up. She made it on her own, and for that she already had my admiration. But you do not chose who you fall for. Somewhere along the way, she fell, and her life was never the same again. She didn’t know it at first. She wasn’t prepared for it. She was in love with a rock star. Their love story is a roller coaster ride you wouldn’t want to miss. The ups and downs were pretty much addicting you think you know what’s coming, and suddenly something surprises that will leave you off-guard. There was never a boring moment in this book – some pages will infuriate you, some will make you fall in love, others will make you squirm, and each pages will have you hooked you’ll never want to put this down until you reach the end page. Just like me, I’m sure you can’t resist falling for the front-man of the Resistance. ¿Complimentary Copy was given in exchange for an honest review.¿

I've been following S.L. Scott's books since our blog participated in the tour for A prior Engagement. I was fortunate enough to get an early copy of her latest book The Resistance. I'm a hug fan of rocker books and was super excited to hear she was writing one! I truly believe that this book is her BEST work yet! She's always had good heroines and sexy HOT heroes but the ones in this book aren't just good they were EXCEPTIONAL!!! Holliday Hughes is a business woman. She's successful, intelligent, savvy, and humbly beautiful! She's also had some rough times but she doesn't let them break her down. Her strong will to succeed sets her apart from the class of heroines I'm use to reading in books. That doesn't mean she doesn't have weak moments, but even in those times her strength, compassion and ability to forgive shine through. Jack Dalton or just Dalton whatever you want to call him has to be one of my favorite rockers to come along in a long time. He's got all the suave sexy good looks, the voice to make a girl melt and 1000 lbs of baggage! But he will make you swoon, seriously piss you off and make you fall in love with him. When these two first meet it's instant attraction and sparks fly! But doubt and insecurities quickly creep up on them both. Holliday and Dalton have a lot of issues and working through them at times is like a category five tornado destroying everything in it's path. But after the storms clear and the sky settles, the reconstruction begins. It isn't an easy road Or a short one, but when true love comes along it's worth the time rebuilding it. No love is perfect and no person is perfect. We all have flaws, it's what we choose to do about them. There are some seriously winding turns in this one that I never saw coming. S.L. Scott has a gift of surprising turns in her books. This story will take you on a journey full of angst, love, loss, friendship and passion. The Resistance isn't just a book about a Bad Boy Rocker. It's about finding your true north, learning how to cope with the past, finding a way to navigate the present, and building a bright and hopeful future on a foundation of trust and love. In the end it's a ride you won't want to get off.
