Tess Blessing has spent a lifetime constructing a veneer of normality over the emotional wreckage caused by her traumatic childhood. The cracks are showing even before her breast cancer diagnosis. No one she loves--her husband, her children, her fragile sister--are aware of how much of her life is coping, instead of living, so when Tess gets her diagnosis, she feels very much alone. But through a clever twist, Tess is not quite as alone as she believes.  Kagen walks the line between the tragic and the comic, and introduces us to a cavalcade of interesting, whimsical characters. Concern for Tess will keep readers turning the pages, and the touches of magic and unique narrative voice will make them sorry to reach the end.

I fell for Tess and Birdie when I read the novela of their early lives. This book grows on you and will entertain right up until the end.

Lesley Kagen is one of the best writers out there. That being said I didn't care for this book as well as her others' The story itself is good but I didn't care for the way it was delivered.

Check out the full review at Kritters Ramblings A book with quite an interesting character who is trying to keep a lot of things in the air and I am not sure she is doing it all that well.  Tess has grown up a lot since the novella reviewed this morning and she has created quite the to do list to accomplish.  She has quite the hurdles in her life to overcome - a medical diagnosis for her and for her daughter, a husband who doesn't seem connected in the relationship and a son who is doing the teenage years. This as well as the novella have an interesting narrator - an imaginary friend.  I am not sure that I enjoyed having this really different narration - I didn't mind it as much in the novella due to the girls being childhood ages, but being adults and having this imaginary friend tell the story was just a little odd.  AND it was hard to read at a few times, I wish Tess had told her own story, it made me feel less connected to Tess.

Lesley Kagen is a very special author. She skillfully blends drama, tragedy and life events with her trademark sense of humour Ms. Kagen . makes every situation that she tackles both touching and inspiring. I recommend all of her novels, including The Resurrection of Tess Blessing.
