The book has an interesting premise as only Stross can conceive of, but it felt like he just stirred the pot character wise because he could not see future story line for the existing cast relationships. :(

I'm right in the middle between the first two reviewers not because I don't know what to say but because I think both reviews exactly span the sum total of my feelings. If you like this series you have to read this book. You may be a little frustrated at times but you won't regret the read.

A must read for fans of The Laundry Series. If you read the rest of the books then you should definitely check this one out. Contrarily, if you are new to this series this is not the best book to start with. Now, about the plot. There was a bit of "pot stirring" as other reviewers have mentioned. I enjoyed the way the mysteries unfolded. The first 300 Nook pages maintained the same pace as expected for a "slow burn" supernatural thriller. Suddenly, in the last 70 Nook pages, the pacing changed. The abrupt ending felt rushed. And the last page left the reader dangling off the edge of a cliff. Not a fun place to be! I'm especially worried for Bob & the Laundry. Even so, I cannot wait to read the next book! -Avid Reader

Bob has come into his own, just as a serious crises threatens the Laundry. The past returns, new demands arise, and his character shines with silver-like tarnish. The author has honed his craft beautifully, creating a realistic and sympathetic character in a complex world. And a cliffhanger!

Starting about a year after are last book, it is another great Laundry Files novel. With major changes all around, as much as some of them upset me still another great read, I can not wait for the Armageddon Score. Great work as always from Charles Stross.
