Overview

The Right Stuff

The disc is evenly divided between dance-floor fodder and AOR fluff, and it ain't half bad. Despite the fact that Williams works with six producers and eight songwriters, the disc has a consistent feel, and while Vanessa doesn't have a voice suited to belting out raunchy R&B, she's smart enough to stay within her limitations and let her personality take up the slack.

To be honest Vanessa Williams's voice isn't perfect, but there isn't a singer alive who's voice is? William's really is an underestimated singer, her voice is as sexy and as confident as her album cover photos. The backing tracks may be smooth R&B drival, but somehow she only she can make those tracks work for her. Tracks like Dreamin' really stand out, and is actually the highlight of the album as a whole. If only there were 10 songs more like it the album would have been a smash. Overall Right Stuff is a good effort, and is a step in the right direction for her, as you can hear in her proceeding albums.
