Ed Earl Burch is back in Jim Nesbitt's hard-boiled crime thriller, THE RIGHT WRONG NUMBER, a gritty, hard-driving story that ranges from the gleaming towers and timeworn barrios of Houston to the stark desert mountains of the Big Bend country and northern Mexico.

Burch is a cashiered Dallas homicide detective and battered but dogged private investigator. He's been hired by an old flame in Houston to protect her after a body is found in the charred remains of the BMW owned by her high-flying financier husband. That leaves her facing angry investment clients who want their money back and don't mind sending some nasty emissaries to collect. Homicide cops are pressing her for answers she says she doesn't have and securities investigators are looking to hang fraud charges around her neck. And in the background are the silent partners in some of her husband's darker deals, some unsavory and deeply unhappy gentlemen in sleek suits from New Orleans.

Burch finds himself in the middle of a ruthless contest where nobody can be trusted and money and sex tempt him to break his own rules. The stakes have a murderous edge -- a pair of hit men sent by those New Orleans gentlemen to reclaim millions in money and product stolen by the husband and kill anybody involved with the ripoff. The old flame is Savannah Crowe, a rangy and carnal strawberry blonde with a violent temper and a lethal knack for larceny and betrayal. Burch also faces a familiar adversary, Houston homicide detective Cider Jones, a mystic with Comanche blood who blames Burch for his partner's killing and wouldn't mind seeing him wind up in the morgue.

When an old Dallas friend gets murdered by hired muscle, Burch blames himself and grimly sets out to even the score.

The action is as relentless and unpredictable as a runaway cement truck, leading to a lonely white chapel in an abandoned mining town on the Mexican side of the Rio Grande. Take another deadly ride with Ed Earl Burch. You'll be glad you did.

About the Author

Jim Nesbitt is the author of three hard-boiled Texas crime thrillers that feature battered but dogged Dallas PI Ed Earl Burch -- The Last Second Chance, a Silver Falchion finalist; The Right Wrong Number, an Underground Book Reviews “Top Pick”; and, his latest, The Best Lousy Choice.

Nesbitt was a journalist for more than 30 years, serving as a reporter, editor and roving national correspondent for newspapers and wire services in Alabama, Florida, Texas, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Washington, D.C. He chased hurricanes, earthquakes, plane wrecks, presidential candidates, wildfires, rodeo cowboys, migrant field hands, neo-Nazis and nuns with an eye for the telling detail and an ear for the voice of the people who give life to a story.

His stories have appeared in newspapers across the country and in magazines such as Cigar Aficionado and American Cowboy. He is a lapsed horseman, pilot, hunter and saloon sport with a keen appreciation for old guns, vintage cars and trucks, good cigars, aged whiskey and a well-told story. He lives in Athens, Alabama.
