It has a great story with a lot of emotions involved, and it could get you hooked really fast. The main character's view on the world is pretty twisted, and you don't see that often in many stories which make this book very unique. If your wondering if this book is worth your time or not. You should at least give it a try. Believe it or not this book was once out of stock, and in my opinion, if it's good enough to be out of stock it must be doing something right.

Well neither of the other reviewers seem to have actually read the book, as much as they are just complaining about how they bought it without reading that its actually a light novel. Well they are missing out but if you would prefer a manga format this became popular enough to get one released in January listed on this site as a manga companion. It hits the important parts but some key details about characters and key scenes are glossed over or cut out, as is common place with adaptations of novels. I found the novel to be and easy and engaging read and when I finished the first volume I rushed out to get the second, so even if you don't normally read novels don't count this one out. Review: As stated above I found this novel interesting and engaging enough that I had to buy the second one right away. The synopsis makes it sound like this will be like any other cliche fantasy novel. In some ways that's true. Our Lead character Naofumi, is reading a fantasy novel in the library remarking on how cliche it is so far when he in transported to the world in its pages. Upon arrival he is tasked as one of four heroes, summoned from 4 different versions of Japan, to save the world. Shortly after arriving it becomes unclear if he is in a video game or a fantasy world, and clear that as the shield hero, he is screwed. It spirals away from cliche at this point and Saying much more might ruin the story. However, I will say that this is not a "four heroes go on a journey and become friends along the way and everything turns out alright" story line. Each hero must form their own party and journey off in different directions only occasionally interacting with one another. It is very clear that in this world Naofumi will need to earn his happy ending and it seem likely he still won't get one. Definitely worth a read even if you don't normally go in for fantasy.
