As a teacher I'm exposed to some of the finest fiction available for todays youth and Rock of Realm is way at the top of my list. This incredible fantasy adventure teaches us about friendship, loyalty, courage, wisdom, and that not everything is as it seems. Alex is a reasonably content young girl with the same likes and dislikes as the rest of us. She obeys, most of the time, is content within the comfort of her family, loves her English class, adores her best friend Sarah, and has both a dog Butch, and Pops a rather interesting squirrel with a whole lot of attitude to keep her entertain. On this particular day, Alex's world is about to skid sideways. A story told by her English teacher combined with a few freaky things dropping virtually in upon her staid life are going to scoop the four them into an adventure that will forever change her life. Lea Schizas has created a delightful, fast moving tale that will enchant young and not so young. I highly recommend this book,

It is fun to escape reality from time to time. In The Rock of Realm you will travel with Alex, Sarah, Butch, Pops and Jinx into a world where danger is in abundance and friendship and courage are a must! Secret worlds will be revealed and good and evil will collide. The characters are real, interesting and at times, funny. Fans of fantasy will love every word of this book told by a gifted storyteller. I rate it 3.5 stars.

I found this a compulsive and enjoyable read (fast and easy to read). In many ways, it reminded me of that book with the Kansas girl who dreams of a better world 'somewhere over the rainbow.' When the Rock of Realm falls from the sky, nothing will ever be the same for a young girl and her loyal friends (including a talking dog and squirrel--both of whom I loved). I rate it 5 out of 5 stars. When you read the book, don't expect to get much else done.

As any book goes, the beginning is usually an introduction to the characters. Lea Schizas, author of The Rock of Realm, stabilizes her characters with lots of foreshadows from the very beginning. With the dramatic first chapter ending, with a chant I am sure will captivate children for many years to come, the adventure and quests begin in Chapter Two, Sappy. The names and places are simple enough for a child to remember: Braks, Qulany River, Rock Kingdom, which, by the way, found it absolutely perfect to go with the main character, Alexandra Stone. And as the quest to lead her friends back home after finding themselves in this other world, Alex continues to grow and question why her parents never deemed it necesary to tell her who and where she really belonged. Alex and her friend, Sarah, were strong characters but by far my most favorite ones were the animals, Pops and Jinx. These two reminded my of some past friends who never stopped quarrelling with each other. Throughout the book I was able to envision this as a movie; lots of action, amusing and entertaining characters, and some twists to keep my attention throughout. On a scale from 1-5, I easily give The Rock of Realm a 5. Suitable for all ages to read. A present Wizard of Oz entertainment.
