As a fan of the gritty and grey-hued world of Mafia-themed books I was immediately drawn to the promise of this story with its multiple storylines and large cast of characters. From the first page to the last readers are taken on an emotional rollercoaster that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Throw in a lot of sexual tension and readers will find themselves torn in differing directions keeping up with all the action and ramifications. To save her brother, Nika sold her soul to the devil and has the physical and emotional bruises to show for it. Caught up in the web of her mafia husband's blackmail she's desperate to find a way out but stays out of loyalty. The scenes of her abuse were vividly depicted with each pain palpable to the reader and I was left aching for all she suffered. When she finally finds a way out though the drama and pain don't end as he becomes even more dangerously psychotic. Her only hope for safety lies in Vincente, a man known as the Reaper and who she's been attracted to for quite some time. I applauded Nika finally taking charge and her journey to putting her past behind her made for an intensely emotional evolution made harder by Vincente's emotional push and pull resulting from his own personal demons. Vincente was a super sexy man with an air of mystery surrounding him. He's said to be dangerous and deadly but I didn't completely get that impression of him. He gave off a teenage vibe in the use of "fanboy", the name he gave himself when conversing in his head. I so wanted him to live up to his reputation but am still waiting to some extent. Early on he was drawn to Nika but it's not until she escapes, and he discovers what she's gone through, that he steps up to the plate swearing she'll never be anything but happy from then on. They have a connection based on their loyalty to loved ones that has made for a mutually pained past. I had hoped this would bring them together quicker but his issues of not being good enough for her kept them apart, and me frustrated, until almost the very end. That's not to say that their burgeoning relationship wasn't full of sexual tension, as it was. Their interactions crackled and kept me on edge as Nika was constantly in danger from her ex. All in all this was a good story that might not have reached the level I'd hoped it would but still kept me engaged with its juggling of multiple storylines and POVs. The heroine's strong-willed and admirable for her loyalty and dealing with the past. Though the hero didn't quite live up to his hype I still found his dealing with his own issues a compelling struggle. I enjoyed the remaining cast of characters and have great hope for the next installment as the pace of this story quickly immersed me from the first page to the last.

Nika: She stays with a monster for love of her brother and dreams of The Reaper. Vinente: Shared a stolen kiss with Nika- couldn't forget her Salvation of Vengeance is tough, gritty, and filled to the brim with emotion. It has you fighting along side Nika to survive, fighting with the men as they combat their need to protect the ones they love from themselves, and fighting FOR them all. The story keeps your eyes to the page as the drama unfolds. It seems never ending and I love it. I love these characters and look forward to reading each story as they are written (especially Maksim and Tores's!!). The abuse could be hard to handle if you are sensitive to that, so be warned. Nancy Haviland has written a fantastic book, great writing and character building. Great news, this can be read as a stand alone! so if you came into it late all good! But after reading it you will be buying Gabriel and Aria's book! For this book though I am seriously happy to give it 5 stars and would give it a baby dragon hording the jewels if I could! I loved these characters that much. Highly recommended!

As much as I loved A Love of Vengeance, THE SALVATION OF VENGEANCE completely blew me away! Ms. Haviland gives us an incredible story that far exceeds the first one: a brooding and protective hero, an amazing and strong woman willing to go through hell to protect her loved one and a steamy and tumultuous but ultimately healing love. From the first page I was completely drawn into Nika and Vincente's story. Nika Paynne has been in prison for the past year, subjected to emotional and physical abuse and her jailer is her husband. Blackmailed into marriage to protect her brother and unable to share what she was going through with those closest to her, Nika has been waiting for the perfect opportunity to get hold of the incriminating evidence and make her escape and the opportunity presents itself on the trip to New York for Eva and Gabriel's wedding.  When the entire group finds out what she has been going through since her marriage, all bets are off and everyone is all in to make sure that her husband pays for his treatment of her, especially Vincente.  Vincente is a protector at the core of him and as the underboss for the Moretti crime family, he has seen his fair share of violence. However, he is haunted by the loss of his sister, the one person he was not able to protect and when he discovers the extent of the abuse Nika has gone through, he is compelled to protect and take care of her. The attraction between Nika and Vincente is very obvious to their friends, but they both have to overcome their pasts and heal before they can explore and enjoy the love brewing between them. The sheer intensity of the emotions evoked by this story is beyond words. From pain and anguish to happiness and everything in between, readers will definitely experience it all. The characters are so well-written that it is hard to believe that the author is relatively new. Vincente is swoon-worthy and complicated: on one hand he is the Reaper, a brutal and lethal enforcer who metes out  mob justice to those deemed deserving of it and the other hand he is this protective and sweet yet damaged champion. Nika is amazing and strong, but some of the choices she made regarding the threat to her brother were annoying and naive to me. I love that the secondary characters were still a big part of the story and I love that we get pieces of the story through the eyes of a secondary character and not just the main characters. I love everything about THE SALVATION OF VENGEANCE and can't wait for the next in the series.  Warning: The story contains instances of domestic violence, so beware.   *I received this book for free from the Publisher in exchange for an honest review. Reviewed for Read Your Writes Book Reviews by Gemini The Salvation of Vengeance was one of the best books that I have read in the past year. It was raw, violent, disturbing, suspenseful, and just plain fun. Granted, I really love books about vengeance. I like to see bad people pay for their sins. It’s even better when they are so arrogant that they don’t even see it coming. There aren’t any angels in this book. Everyone has a dark side. Some of them are darker than others. The physical and mental pain that some of the characters suffer is a testament to the inner strength that we all must have in order to survive the worst case scenarios this world may bring. The Salvation of Vengeance is the second book in the Wanted Men series. Although you don’t have to read the first book, A Love of Vengeance, in order to enjoy this one, I’m sure that you would gain more pleasure and insight into all of the key players if you did. Nika Paynne has been a prisoner in her marriage for over a year in order to protect her brother, Caleb. Things come to a head when her and her husband go to New York to attend her best friend Eva’s wedding. Eva just so happens to be marrying an Italian Mob boss. Nika also has been lusting after Vincente Romani, the Underboss of Eva’s future husband, Gabriel. Vincente is nicknamed “Reaper” and he more than lives up to his name. He is also equally attracted to Nika but doesn’t think he deserves such an angelic woman. When Vincente learns that Nika has been brutally beaten by her psycho husband, he makes a vow to kill him but first he has to find him. While Kevin is on the run, he morphs into a serial killer and the book takes an even darker turn. It was a thrilling ride. I’d tell you more of what happens but then I’d have to kill you. If mobsters, guns, and scorching sexual attraction is your thing, this book will not disappoint. I am looking forward to the next book in the series. **Received a copy from Montlake Romance in exchange for an honest unbiased opinion.**
