The Scent of Smoldering Bridges
In the year since Lizzie Heenan left Legananny, she crosses the vast Atlantic Ocean, and becomes indentured to a minister's family in Newton Lower Falls of Massachusetts. Although she learns to be a skillful cook, she seeks to be employed as a laundress as she was in Northern Ireland. When her indenture is terminated, she moves to South Boston with her mother and half sister. Lizzie has always lived her life on her own terms, but recent events have subdued her outspoken tongue, her undaunting confidence and her joyful adventurous spirit.

In her new home, the three women meet Will and Charlie, two young, but ambitious blacksmiths from Nova Scotia. Their lives become entangled in ways that will forever change the way Lizzie has determined to live her life...

Years later, Lizzie's daughter Claire, an accomplished young bookkeeper has a different life planned than her mother has in mind. Claire longs for a life with fashion, bright lights, adventure, and independence. She steps into a world at war, political upheaval and dangerous surroundings far outside her family's protection. The decisions she makes puts her at odds with the world where she was carefully nurtured.

The Scent of Smoldering Bridges is the third entry in the Legananny Trilogy. The Winds of County Down and The Selfsame Moon and Stars are the first two volumes of the series.
