Overview

Shawna Cartier's life of privilege comes to a drastic halt when she is committed into a psychiatric ward. The experience forces Shawna to do a self- evaluation and come to terms with her past. She must deal with painful and shocking decisions that she has made. Secrets, lies, and deception have devastating consequences for all involved, leaving Shawna to pick up the pieces of a shattered life.

Feeling that her life is spiraling out of control, Shawna seeks professional help. Her counselor, Keith, quickly becomes her best friend. Having difficulty separating business from pleasure, Keith must decide whether or not he wants to pursue a romantic relationship with her.

Derrick, Shawna's father, was a dead-beat dad who reaches high levels of success by denying his own race. Evelyn, Shawna's mother, is overprotective of her daughter, because she desperately wants to shelter her from the world. Nanna, Shawna's grandmother, vividly remembers her days of young, but a youthful indiscretion haunts her for the rest of her life. Jake, Shawna's husband, turns her life into a nightmare.

A very good read; in fact it's a MUST read. Although this is a work of fiction, it speaks to many real-life issues in a very realistic way. It's a page turner and keeps the reader engaged from beginning to end.

The book as a first attempt was horrible. A good editor would help with all the grammerical and spelling error. The character was very shallow. Book was to wordy ---saying nothing... I purchase the first book --but will not but the sequel. Author need some more development

I met this author during a book club meeting, and the club members enjoyed this read. It was easy to read, and went at a nice pace. Perhaps the reviewers who had such strong views didn't realize that this book is part of a sequel. There are supposed to be unanswered questions. As far as the main character's behavior, she was young, and didn't have a whole lot of experience to help her make wiser choices. Overall, I recommend this book, and I think the author has a lot of talent. She has dared to go against the grain and succeeded.

I had the opportunity to meet this author during a book club meeting. The author informed us that this book is the first of a sequel, which will be out later this year. Shawna was shallow and did not do a lot of self examination, because she was young. The growth and maturity will come in the sequel. I enjoyed reading this book, because I know women just like Shawna. It was a page turner, and I recommend this book. I'm looking forward to the next book.

I was totally frustrated with this book. The characters were shallow and never really flushed out. I saw no growth in the main character at all. The hospital setting would have been an excellent back drop for the main character to do some self inspection -- that never happened. In fact, the hospital scene could have been eliminated as it really served no purpose. The book promised a lot, had potential -- but never delivered. A really good editor would have helped alot. I read the book and felt I had read a draft. I never understood why the character was screaming within -- I just know that I was 'Screaming Within after reading it. I think this author has potential -- please get a good editor.

The Scream Within takes you through the character's journey. Although I didn't think Shawna had it so hard, I could see that she had been through some traumatic things that could wear a person down over time. I would like to have seen Shawna reflect more, but overall it was an excellent book. I highly recommend it, and would buy a sequel.

The Scream Within picked up where Terry McMillan left off. This book was so 'juicy' that I didn't want to put it down. When I finished reading, I wanted MORE. I hope there's a sequel.

The Scream Within was a brilliant novel. The story was interesting and a real page turner. I didn't want to put it down. I felt a wide range of emotions. The characters seemed realistic, and believable. I highly recommend this novel.

This book is one of the most exhilarating fiction books I have read. It starts off strong and ends even better! Unlike so many other books, such as, 'Waiting to Exhale', the lead character Shawna Cartier, doesn't just experience drama, but she faces her generational and internal issues and finds herself. This is a book that will entertain and provoke many to look within. The author has a fresh writing style that others will most certainly copy.
