In Ancient Egypt, long before Cleopatra, when men ruled and women were property, king's daughter, Hatshepsut, declared herself king. Ancient enemies, seeing Egypt's preoccupation with the throne, prepared to invade. Egypt needed a strong king. Politics, natural disasters, murder, harem intrigue, treachery and forbidden love permeate this battle for the ultimate prize, the Double Crown of Egypt. Hatshepsut's life was erased by her successor but the Scribe, Tetem-re, has documented these events within his Book of the Dead. Born into a peasant family, Tetem-re became one of the most influential men of his time. Forced to play a crucial part in a most heinous plot to seize the throne, Tetem-re risks eternal life to preserve the truth.
