This book was a wonderful surprise. I must say right upfront that prior to reading this book I had never even heard of this author. However, as I enjoy a PNR/fantasy read every now and again and the blurb was appealing, I decided to give it a shot and I am so glad I did. This wonderful, well written read quickly sucked me into Cooper's story and kept me fully engaged and invested. Copper himself, is a complex character that easily steals into your heart. With a heartbreaking home life and things really not that much better at school, he is easy to sympathize with and/or relate to, depending on your own life experiences. In addition to the powerful emotions woven into the book, you have a strong storyline filled with drama, danger, friendship, hints of romance and the battle between good and evil. Truly an excellent read and I look forward to reading more books about Cooper soon.

Terrific story of a young man's journey. The story starts with a bit of the area's history, establishing the major players and conflicts. Then it becomes Cooper's story, and how his destiny is tied to forces beyond himself. This is a captivating book, filled with action and suspense and a little more realism than usual. It's a complex story of love, loyalty, and family that takes a few unexpected turns before settling in for the HEA. It's very well written, with exquisite detail that creates a kaleidoscope of emotions permeating throughout the characters. It's unlike any other paranormal novel I've ever read. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

The trees told there age old stories of monsters and men, love and hate, betrayal and loyalty, wonder and evil, friendship and family. He creates a world so vivid that it is easy to imagine magic just out of sight when you close the book and find yourself back in the real world. Full of characters to love, and a few to love to hate.

Absolutely magnificent. Have you ever read a book, and then tried to write a review, and nothing you could come up with did it any justice? This was that book for me. The imagery that the author creates throughout the pages is amazing. The story literally comes to life just like watching a movie, in your imagination. It takes a very talented writer to be able so spin that kind of tale. Golden creates a world that could possibly exist in the next town over, unknown to us. A boy, from the wrong side of the tracks find himself in an unlikely situation, out of his control. A girl from a well off family finds herself pining for someone she shouldn't. A friend who would do anything for his best friend. Bullies that aren't as they appear. Elements of paranormal, romance, and drama ensue. I can't wait for the next in the series! Well. Well done.
