About the Author

Cynthia Wright is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of the two Rakes & Rebels series, 11 intertwining historical romances starring the irresistible Raveneau & Beauvisage families. She has also written beloved series set during the Renaissance and in the American West. Romantic Times Magazine hails Cynthia's novels as "Romance the way it was meant to be."

Cynthia's newest book is HIS MAKE-BELIEVE BRIDE, the story of Mouette Raveneau and Justin St. Briac, her first “older” couple, who come to their tempestuous relationship with plenty of baggage, defenses, and hidden longings.

Cynthia is now working on a new series set in 16th century Scotland.

Cynthia lives in northern California. She enjoys riding a tandem bike and taking road trips in an airstream trailer with her Colombian-born husband, Alvaro & their corgi, Watson. She is also devoted to her two adorable grandsons who live nearby.

THE SECRET OF LOVE is Cynthia Wright's newest entry in her Rakes and Rebels series. It is the story of Lady Isabella Trevarre and Gabriel St. Briac, who first met in SMUGGLER'S MOON. At 14, Izzie declared upon seeing St. Briac for the first time, “That is the man I will marry!” Now grown and nearly on the shelf, Lady Isabella is less concerned about propriety and more focused on her art, spending time under the tutelage of the renowned artist, Madame Le Brun. Gabriel has given up some of his smuggling ways and is determined to find a way to keep safe his heritage: a painting of King Francis, supposedly painted by Leonardo daVinci. As is her trademark, Wright has created a love story that weaves real history into the backdrop of her characters. This time, it is the crime of stolen artwork, including Gabriel's beloved painting, during the Napoleonic era. The settings of Cornwall, England and war-torn France are well-described, the characters well-drawn and I was captivated as I followed Izzie and Gabriel fighting their attraction and on the hunt for the stolen painting. Of course, what would the story be without cameos from Raveneau and Beavisage families? Mouette Raveneau is Izzie's best friend and there is a visit Isabella and Gabriel visit Nicholai and Lisette Beavisage at their Château du Soleil. THE SECRET OF LOVE stands alone, but is made richer by reading the other Rakes and Rebels books, where you can discover the back stories of the cameos. I look forward to the next installment, HIS MAKE-BELIEVE BRIDE, to read the story of Mouette and Justin St. Briac.

The Secret of Love is Book 3 of Cynthia Wright's Rakes and Rebels series. While this novel easily stands on its own, I highly recommend that you purchase and read the entire series! Independent, art-loving Lady Isabella Trevarre ('Izzy') is a heroine I found easy to relate to. From the moment her path crosses with the dashing Gabriel St. Briac, she matches him in spirit, determination, and adventure. Through a series of exciting twists, the couple's story kept me eagerly turning the pages through intrigue, danger, conflict, attraction, passion, romance, and just the right balance of sweetness and spice. With sparkling dialogue and beautifully described settings, Ms. Wright weaves an interesting plot and exciting love story that transported me to the book's Regency-era settings. I particularly loved the interesting tidbits of history related to the artists Elisabeth Vigee Le Brun and Leonardo da Vinci, which make up an important part of the story. Supporting characters in the book, as well as descriptions of locations, food and clothing, are written with great attention to detail, enriching the tapestry of the story. The Secret of Love carried me away to a place I've known and loved for decades: the world of Cynthia Wright, where love and passion between two people lives at the center of beauty and adventure. The best romance I've read all year, and very highly recommended! I received a free review copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
