Are you interested in reading a non-fiction book that will entertain, educate and inspire all at the same time? Then this is the book for you. If you have never heard of the red wolf, you're not alone. Many people are not aware that this native wolf of the Southeast even exists - and very few of the species do. Red Wolves are critically endangered, and they live in the wild only in northeastern North Carolina In this beautifully written and meticulously researched book, Beeland weaves objective and fascinating information together with wonderful first-person stories about shadowing the field biologists as they go about the tough work of recovering and restoring the red wolf. This is a book for everyone - conservation-minded citizens, students, biologists and people who love wild creatures and wild landscapes. This is a must for your book collection! .

The Secret World of Red Wolves is the most authoritative book written on red wolves to date.  T. DeLene Beeland has done a thorough job of educating the reader on red wolf history from the distant past up until the present day.  You learn how and why they became extinct in the wild-and how thanks to the hard work of the Red Wolf Recovery program they live in the wild once again!  You learn about the threats to their survival, both past and present.  Sometimes I smiled when reading the book, and sometimes I cried.  Beeland pulls no punches.  I have read the book twice so far, and thanks to the information in it I have become the red wolf “specialist” for a non-profit organization.  This is a must read for anyone interested in red wolves, wolves in general, or how an endangered species can be brought back from the brink of extinction.

I haven't finished the book yet. Lots of background info. Goes into detail of what might be ahead as far as the sanctuary in North Carolina. I find it very interesting and will use it as a resource. I do believe that it was well researched.
