I WAS A HELO PILOT IN VN 1967-1968. FLYING H-34 ON OVER 600 MISSIONS OF ALL TYPES. I FIND THE ACCOUNTS IN THIS BOOK AS VERY POOR REPRESENTATIONS OF THE THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS OF ALL MY PILOT FRIENDS AND SQUADRON MATES. IT APPEARS THAT THE AUTHOR TOOK EXTREME LIBERTY WITH THE TRUTH OF THINGS. HE EXAGGERATES AND SEEMS TO MAKE UP THINGS AS HE WENT ALONG IN ORDER TO TRY TO ADD EXCITEMENT TO SITUATIONS THAT DON'T REQUIRE IT. I FELT THAT IT IS QUITE INACCURATE IN MANY AREAS, BOTH WITH LANGUAGE USED AND EVENTS.

I thought it was a very poor job of editing. The book never did give me the feeling that I couldn't put it down. I don't want to sound like I'm minimizing what Mr. Steele went through in Vietnam. I have all the respect for all of our military.
