About the Author

After raising her children and retiring from a career in education, Tess Matthews is following her passion – writing romance. Her stories are full of adventure, intrigue and above all romance, but not your ordinary vanilla romance, Tess writes about strong men who love their feisty women and take them in hand when needed. Although she enjoys all types of romance stories, her favorites take place in the old west – after all, who can resist those cowboys!

Tess lives on the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in northern Alabama with her husband and a variety of dogs, cats, and chickens.

Reviewed by Molly Edwards for Readers' Favorite In The Sheriff Takes A Bride, Sheriff Zeke Oakley has two problems – raiders attacking homesteads and an exasperating girl named Spring. It's just possible that the raiders are the lesser of the two evils. First, I have to say, that cover alone is enough to get me to read a book by this superbly talented author. But, even if the book didn't have that cover, Tess Matthews' talent and story line would have been the hooker for me. She's a truly talented author and knew just what to give her readers. Instantly hooking me, I stayed up all night to finish this book. The historical elements were amazing, the characters witty. As a person who has suffered loss, this book really captivated me. I felt a lot of Spring's emotions. And, as a person who has a bit of a temper, I could sympathize with her. Her character really was charming and witty, and I loved reading every second of her story. Zeke's character is a true fun one for me. I loved his character. From the minute he was introduced, I followed him closely and envied Spring on many an occasion throughout the story. A book filled with passion, wit and characters that will quickly steal your heart, Ms. Matthews' The Sheriff Takes A Bride is highly recommended. Ms. Matthews' writing style is refreshing and captivating. From start to finish, she hooks the reader and keeps their focus on the story. I can't wait to read another book just like it from this highly talented author! Well done, Ms. Matthews! Well done!

This is a short, well written story about Spring and Zeke. Zeke is the town sheriff of course and Spring (what a great name) is the stubborn and feisty girl he loves. The story plot is fast moving with plenty of action and adjunct characters. There are spankings aplenty and lots of love. Well worth reading.

This is about Zeke and Spring. Spring has had a hard life. Both of her parents are dead and she was raised by her grandfather, Eli. Eli taught her skills that she needed to take care of herself. He taught her to hunt, ride a horse, shoot a gun and follow a trail, and how to fight, if needed. But, now Eli wanted a husband for her, someone to love and keep her safe. Spring and Zeke are attracted to one another, but Zeke thinks of her as a woman in need of being taken care of. Actually, she just needs someone to love her. But, Zeke is determined to make a woman out of her and he spanks her quite a bit when she doesn't follow his direction. Spring doesn't mind and they eventually have a HEA. I give this 4 stars.

*3.5 stars* Sweet and sassy… I’m always happy to pick up a western romance and this one was just what I hoped for - fun, sweet and action-packed. Zeke Oakley is a reluctant sheriff but he knows it is temporary. He will be a farmer someday. He will build a family and create a home. When he meets Spring Jamison, he knows exactly who will be by his side, growing that family, their future, together. Spring grew up under her grandfather’s guidance as he taught her everything he knew about living and surviving in the harsh frontier. She didn’t have a mother’s love to soften the edges so even though she was loving and compassionate she also had a few rough edges along with a quick temper. Laying down the law early, Zeke made no apologies for his way of correcting his future bride. Spring was equally sure she was not on board with his methods of punishment. She had never been spanked in her life! As danger stalks the entire community, Zeke is determined to keep Spring safe. As their battle of wills heats up so does their love for each other in a sweet but spicy courtship. A plot that may seem familiar is given new life with a fresh, and funny, take on love in the old west. Thank you to the publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is a fast paced western adventure story centered around the romance between Spring and the Sheriff. There are also outlaws and kidnappers. Spring has a rebellious personality that gets her into a lot of trouble. Her Sheriff keeps her spunky personality under control with frequent spankings as consequences for her thoughtless impulsive behavior. I love Spring's loyalty to the people she loves. I also enjoyed her and Annie's complete loyalty to each other. They were true BFF's. Captivating Read.

I adored this marvelous book. It had Cowboys, lawmen, very nasty outlaws, mystery, a strong rugged lawman, a sweet young lady who is feisty, sassy and a temper that gets her into trouble. Lots of action, adventure, spanking and a loving relationship.

The Sheriff Takes a Bride is a wonderful book. The character of Spring is sweet, innocent, full of love, and a special spark that ignites when those she loves are involved. While she has been loved growing up life has not always seemed fair. When Spring meets Zeke, the sheriff, life takes on new meaning. Falling in love and growing as woman does not take her strong nature or temper away. He's loves Spring and knows just how to love, take care of, and protect his woman. Overall I recommend this book for anyone who wants a sweet easy read with some mystery, action spankings, and lots of love. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did!!

4 ½ stars I loved this story. There was a little bit of something for everyone. There was some mystery. There were heartwarming moments. Outlaws and raids lent a “what will happen next ?” feel to the story. Spring and Zeke was an odd couple. Spring was anything but a lady, but she could survive on her own. Zeke was patient and doled out well deserved correction. It was an enjoyable read.

THE WILD CHILD AND THE SHERIFF I enjoyed this story of Spring Jamison, a young woman who lost her father before her birth, her mother when she was a young girl and raised by her paternal grandfather, Eli. She knows how to hunt, trap, shoot and use a knife, but what she doesn’t do is act and talk like a lady. Sheriff Zeke Oakley is rather shocked when he witnesses a confrontation in town by what looked like a young man and turns out to be a feisty, foul-mouth young woman. The plot kept me captivated and the pages turning as this mystery suspense that includes outlaws raiding and torching homesteads and attacking people and making the surrounding area of Harmony anything but harmonious. A budding romance of Zeke and Spring that is fully of witty dialog and heartwarming moments. There are many well-deserved spankings and only implied intimacy after marriage.
