This is a fabulous little short story. It's sci-fi, and feels strangely plausible and realistic. It's the story of the Shield, a device which allows you to experience your books, or favorite places, in 3D living reality. You can smell, touch and taste, what is essentially a falsely created environment. The technology infiltrates every aspect of the planet, but as usual, everything comes with fine print. The fine print on using a shield is much like a box of cigarettes. Use at your own risk. The bottom line is making money, so the unforeseen complications of Shield addiction could never be anticipated. I loved it and thought it was an original premise and well written.
