Overview

The Sickness

Alternative metal exploded during the late '90s thanks to groundwork laid by groups like Nine Inch Nails, White Zombie, and Rage Against the Machine, and as record companies scrambled to find the next Korn or Limp Bizkit, the genre became clogged with legions of similar-sounding bands, all trying to find just the right blend of low, heavy guitar riffs, rap-metal, industrial, and intense aggression. Often, those attempts could result in sounds that seemed too calculated and self-consciously cobbled together to feel natural; plus, inventive production was frequently employed to disguise many songs' lack of memorable hooks. The Sickness, the first entry by Chicago's Disturbed in the alt-metal sweepstakes, thankfully avoids those common pitfalls, turning in a mixture of raw, gut-level metal and industrial/electronic backing that feels logical and integrated. Although the music has its fair share of pummeling aggression and accompanying shouted vocals, Disturbed also isn't afraid to employ melody, and they're actually quite good at it when they choose that direction. Occasional forays into rap-metal aren't really the group's strong suit and can feel a bit awkward, although they do have a certain rhythmic acuity missing from some similar bands' attempts. But even if it has a few less-than-compelling moments, The Sickness overall comes off as the work of a band who really doesn't have far to go to achieve total control of its sound and compositional skills, and that makes it a terrific debut album.

I love Disturbed. Out of their four albums, this was the best. Stupify and DWTS were both the best for me.

Disturbed is a hot new band with unbelievably incredible sound. Their new debut album THE SICKNESS is a great hit and should be one of the best CD's this year. this CD didn't just have a couple of good songs no every song that is on the CD is great. I would love to see Disturbed live in concert. I listen to my CD whenever I have time and it never gets old. This band should be around for a long time and i think that their up coming CD's will be just as good as the first one. David Draiman, vocals, is great with his mixes between loud aggressive shouts to the more mellow lower singing voices that makes his singing very unique and just all around superior to many other singers. The drumms, guitar, bass, and electronics makes this band one of a kind and they should hopefully be around forever.

I've had this CD pretty much since it came out. Let me just say that it ROCKS! They combine a touch of rap with slamming backup rhythm and memorable riffs..it's very in-your-face and each track is a pleasure and different in it's own way.

To put it plain and simple I have never ever bought a rock or metal CD by any group in my entire life. But I heard this song Stupdify on 99x and I had to go bye this CD. The sh#t is bangin! These white boys are gritty, wired, and actually have soul. I'm bumpin this sh#t from the ATL to Detroit! Word is bond!

A cd confined deep within the hidden iniquities of pleasure and disquieting. the songs are good, although the singer is screaming like someone just grabbed his balzac, and the songs are bumpin' IMHO

Like all the others before me have said this cd is truely a refreshing change from all the other trash that is being put out at the moment, I hope that they bring out a follow up album soon. Although they are going to have to make it special, because this album totally blows ya mind IT IS THAT GOOD IT'S TRUE OH IT'S DAM TRUE!!!

Often do I go out and buy a CD, come home and find it only has a few good tracks...this is not the case for The Sickness. The Sickness is by far the greatest album of year and could quite possibly be the album of the new millenium. The CD encompasses both a heavy aspect and mellow aspect in their songs comparable to Metallica at sometimes and Creed at other times. Just recently seeing these guys live added a new dimension to the album. David Draiman's great vocals and mind-boggling sounds similar to Jonathan Davis's of KoRn's make you really up ''get up and get down with the sickness.'' I find myself listening to each and every song on this cd at least 10 times a day...it is an addiction. Mike Wengren's drums, Dan Donegan's guitars, and Fuzz's bass, mixed with the insane David Draiman's vocals leave you ''Stupified'' and wanting more.

12-13-2003 Anno Domini "Stupify" is the song on the swimfan movie trailer. so if you like this song, get it. song is good. swimfan starres actors mr. bradford, ms. appleby, and ms. christesen. swimfan did ok @ the box office: 28 million at the box office. the plot is about a young woman from the elite class who falls for this swimmer, but becomes obsessed with him that in the end she is driven to madness, in where it results in a tragic pool death. But this band Rocks, and Swimfan, THE MOVIE, is good too.
